Which strat would you pick? EJ signature, 57 ri or 62 ri
I just happen to love every single one of these guitars, but if I had to pick one I don't think I could decide.
I think Eric Johnson's signature is one of the best sounding and best made guitars coming out of Fender (not counting the custom shop), but I feel like its missing something the reissues have... In my opinion the '57 is the most versatile guitar out of the three and it has that vintage vibe but I'm not in love with the small radius... And lastly there is the '62. I really like the warm tone and the neck is great, but I have only gotten to play it once and I don't remember all the details about it. (Also I have heard of the '62 hot rod which might be better but I wouldn't know) So if you had to pick one of those three which would you choose? |

I'd say the EJ. The attention to detail on those things is stunning (not surprising, considering it's Eric Johnson!) and every one I've tried has ranged from solid to "I don't need to eat this month."

really it's between the EJ and the other 2...the 57 and 62 are the same guitars with different necks..and a couple more p/g screws....frets , p/ups etc...the 57 is a maple neck the 62 is rosewood other than that...same same

The first Eric Johnson strat I played was amazing and I would have bought it in a heart beat but I was out of state and I didn't know about guitar centers shipping policy at the time and I knew there was one in the store near me so I tried the one in my local store and it just wasn't any were near as good as the first one

For my personal preferences? EJ hands down. I cannot abide the small radius and tiny vintage frets of the RI guitars. Not to mention, the EJ neck, shallow routing, no back plate (which I'm gonna take off and toss aside anyhow) those killer pickups, the whole guitar is off the charts good.
And it comes in Candy Red. Bonus!

I tried a '62 RI and an EJ at the local shop, I went with the EJ. I just preferred the 12" radius and the overall quality of the EJ which was stunning. You're really gonna have to play 'em to know for sure. If you like the vintage radius more than the flatter fretboard, definitely check the RIs. Also pay close attention to the tone - the EJ pups are different for sure, some love 'em and some hate 'em.
Oh yeah, any excuse to show it off... the awesome white blonde finish looks way better in person.

I tried a white blonde one like Torz has. Really does look better in person. I was in the shop and I just kept looking at it until the storeperson handed it to me. Really light! I actually was not too crazy about he neck on it though. I have a 62 hotrod that will never leave. Never played the 57 reissue but I think I would have a problem with the fretboard radius.

I have a AV'57, essentially because of the neck which really has my preference over the EJ (smaller radius on the 57) and the AV'62 (slight V, maple fretboard on the 57). Soundwise, I've compared it with an AV'62 and they didn't sound dramatically different.
Anyway, you can't go wrong with any of these models. |

Here's a couple more, the quality isn't so great since I only have a cell phone to take pics.
