Who's Got Guts? Let's See Your Fake Guitars

Let's see which guys here have some guts (or a good lawyer behind them).
Show us your fake guitars. Show us your guitars that really aren't what they appear to be.

Here's mine. I took a Standard Casino and turned it into a John Lennon Casino.
I simply:
- added a black ring around the pickup selector switch,
- swapped the bulky E on pickguard for a Lennon correct foil E,
- replaced the orange label inside the guitar body with the blue label Lennon had.

Sue me.

Here's a before and then an after.

All of my guitars are exactly as advertised... even the ones I've built. I want credit for my work and I'm not out to fool anyone.

I have a Hohner strat at home that isn't made of wood. Upon drilling it I found it was actually made of a substance somewhere between 'biscuits' and 'pencil shavings'. Horrible dusty material. That is as close to a fake as I have!

My Tele Deluxe clone. It's an Allparts neck, body by B. Hefner, and genuine Fender parts. I wanted one, and decided to build my own. It ended up costing me nearly as much as if I had simply bought one of the RI's. I recently upgraded the wiring with a Jimmy Page setup with 4 push/pulls. It now has some awesome sounds.

That's usually the case.

Uh... all of my guitars are "fakes". Strat copies made overseas (Ok one was made in Mexico, but a previous owner sanded off the "Squier series" so it looked more like a Fender), an Epiphone SG, a Tele made of parts from Warmoth, you get the idea. Nothing I have is a "real" guitar but they all look like "F" and"G" brand ones. Does that count?

I've got a wonderful guitar made by Piers Crocker (affectionately known as a 'Crockenbacker') which is based on a 1958-1960 Rickenbacker 360F. I love it!

This looks like a plain-top tobacco-burst Gibson Les Paul,

but it's actually a cheese blintz.

My Fakai. Lawsuit copy of originally a lawsuit guitar. Haha. It's a 2004 Korean made Tokai Love Rock. I'm not sure the full story, but someone in Canada ordered them to sell in the Canadian market. This was done without Tokai Japan's consent and was stopped shortly after. This was my first guitar and I never found any of this out until much later.

This thing is a monster, the body and set neck are both solid maple, and the body looks to be quartersawn. The cap on it looks to be like mahogany. (totally reversed from a regular Les Paul) This thing is also swimming in finish and weighs at least a good 15 pounds. People may joke about using a Tele as a weapon, but I never thought for a second if my Tele collided with this thing it would stand a chance. Note this is not normal for a Fakai, as all the others I have encountered are (I believe) alder or mahogany bodied.

I have done some mods to it and had a few more planned to do but now I have all but given up on the guitar. It's much to heavy to use comfortably for any real period, and the tone is kind of weak. It's almost dead acoustically. Sustains like nothing else I've ever heard, but doesn't have a rich tone.
Stock tuners (Gibson style) were changed to Grovers (required headstock ream)
Pickups were changed to Dimarzio 36th Anniv. PAF (neck) and Super Distortion. (Bridge)
Bridge/tailpiece changed to locking tonepros.
I also picked up some CTS Pots, Switchcraft jack and switch, and orange drop caps but never installed any of this.

These are spottable by the one screw truss rod cover and the text on the back of the headstock. They always say "Make in Korea." Yes, make.

That is GORGEOUS!!! So, did you use RI pickups or vintage ones??? And how exactly do FOUR push/pull pots work??? I can see two, but what are you changing on the volume pots that you want push/pull for???

Cheers

Dave

I guess in theory my wife's "Devocaster" falls into this category (the yellow one) - when I decided to swap the neck on my 72 deluxe, I picked up a no name body to put the original neck on....I don't really consider it a fake or think there's any ethical implications since no one is going to mistake it for a real 72 Deluxe RI.

Here is my "Rockinbetter" 330.

I purchased it in London, and hand carried it back to the US. I then upgraded the pickups and wiring harness with gen-u-ine brand R parts. For about 1/3 the cost if an actual 330.

Oh, that Rockinbetter is high treason.
That guitar gets you ten life sentences in guitar jail.

Those Rockinbetters are the ultimate in fake guitars. They copy EVERYTHING about the Rickenbacker and then have the balls to do a nasty play on words on the actual brand name. Rockinbetter. A real slap in the face.

Maybe the question should be, 'Who has sold a fake guitar as the real deal?'.

None here.

That is exactly the reason I have not changed the tailpiece or truss rod cover/headstock name.
