Opinions on this Jazzmaster mockup please!

Can see what was removed here

Final

Since it doesn't have the Jazzmaster bridge, the 'butt' of the guitar seems huge to me with nothing there to occupy the space. This new body contour wouldn't affect the belly or leg cutouts, since it occurs after those shapes.

It's basically an offset strat without the horns.

Look better, the same, or worse?

Ignore the watermark.

I'd put a 3 pickup switches like on a jaguar (without the plate), the upper rhythm circuit (again no metal plate), and make it white on white.

I like it except for two things:

-The angle of the switch is fighting the the angles of the body. Although the jazzmaster shape IS angled, it's made up of smooth lines and curves. The switch angles just seems harsh against the natural curve of the body. If it was strait horizontal I think it would work.

-I prefer the jazzmaster trem to a strat trem. Some will probably like the strat trem better. With the trem missing, I'd probably add a Mustang control plate to balance that real estate by the knobs. It looks a little odd or swollen without the bridge and trem plate.

I agree that switch is oddly placed.

Here's my semi-final idea! Tried my best without having image editing know-how. I think I put way too much of an angle on the bridge pickup, it looks weird at the moment.

The Strato-jago-master! (with a dash of les paul)

Now with white knobs!

I've built something very similar. I liked your HSS version the best. That pickup combo is a great setup; I've got it on a Jagstang I built. On the Jazzmaster, the little wheels are wired as coil split blenders, the upper switch cuts out the single coil and the five -way switch is wired in the standard way. Warmoth cut the pickguard for me for around $35. I like the hardtail bridge-no muss, no fuss. I does leave some real estate there but I don't think it looks bad.

Now I really like the new mock up. I like the version with all the rollers and switches white the best.

Thanks for the input, I'll pop back in when I finish it up. Definitely got a few ideas for circuits from your build Strat62.

Oh hey now, when did that come out! Pretty goofy looking, but that seems to be the point with that series. Interesting that all the pickups are angled horizontally and vertically.

Finished it,

Ended up only taking 1.5 inches off the 'butt' of the body. Can't tell that well from a photo. Vol/Tone per pickup, Custom shop '69 Pickups. Switch per pickup, top position is parallel wiring, middle is series, bottom is off. Any combination of series possible. Rhythm circuit switch is actually a Clapton Mid Boost, tone controls still function when mid boost is turned on, gain and volume on roller knobs. Series doesn't work with mid-boost, I'll add that later when I do a string change. It'll be absurd sounding I'm sure but why not it's just another connection to solder. Output jack is located where you'd find one on a tele.

Hmmm that's about it, plays nice, makes the sounds I want, looks cool. About $1100 all done, lost track awhile ago. Good time sink, would make another. Coming up with the wiring was fun. Making the pickguard, not fun.

Does need a wound G string though, the G is twangy and loud as hell. Play a Dmaj and it will drown out the Gb and D for example, not fun to hear. Simple fix.

Ah, the specs

Alder USACG body, Nitro lacquer Olympic White
Full copper tape shielding
Bladerunner Vibrato
Clapton Mid Boost
250k Concentric pots
6800pf, .022uf, .033uf caps
Pau Ferro neck/fretboard USACG
.870 asymmetrical Texas Blues contour
6105 Nickel Silver fretwire
Mother of Pearl inlay
7.25-9.5 Conical radius
Bone Nut
Gotoh SG503 HAPM Tuners

That's it I think.
