A new project

Whille my mother was cleaning out my grandparents house after my grandmother passed, she came across an old electric guitar. It is apparently a Marathon guitar, but that's all I know about it. It has a shallow double cutaway, two single coil pickups and two switches for controlling the PU's. There's also a strange bridge that has me perplexed. Does anyone have any experience with this brand? I'm considering gutting the thing and building a frankenstein guitar.

Why not put some strings on it, plug it in and maybe you'll
be thrilled with the vintage vibe. Looks kinda funky.

Looks like a Teisco type product. The bridge, as far as I can tell from yours or mine, is unintonable. With that in mind, crank up the action high as possible and slide your way into heaven.


I do suggest giving it a shot in original form. They are funky and cool and very fun to play, even if you're several cents out of tune on most of the higher notes

What they said. Try setting it up as best you can and try it out before hacking it up. They can sound awesome and some are worth a little money to the right person. Those pickups look very similar to the ones on my Tiesco Montclair-they sound great!

No, please do not chop up a vintage guitar, regardless of it's country of origin. It's a Teisco, badged for a music distributor who picked the name Majestic.

Make it a slide guitar. Teiscos are great for that.

I want to positively ID it before I do anything. With the Marathon badge on the headstock and the lack of any photos of another on the Tiesco site I visited, I'm still perplexed. I'm going to look inside for any other clues. If the switches are ok, I'll try to reuse them, but I'll need new tuners for sure and still need to figure out the bridge.
