I had my lutheir (who I bought it from) install a K&K Pure Mini and a strap button on the heel. I use K&K's for gigs......my favorite simple system







I bought a D15 nearly 16 years ago. I had bone work done to it and a K&K Pure system installed back then. It's been a wotkhorse and I'll never part with it but I have bad burcitus in my right shoulder and I prefer reaching around a smaller body. 000's are very comfy.

The 00015M has nice woody bottom boom but I can hear all the strings with more balance than the D15 has.

Martin is marketing the vintage appeal with the new 15's. Square (more square) head and the diamond/snowflake fret markers, vintage logo, butter beans.....it looks old school.

I slid the new case in against two older Martin cases and it was funny. New case is black. Older cases were black; now they are grey and nicked up and dusty. It's pretty weird for me to see a jet black Martin case.

This is a life keeper. This one belongs to one of my grandkids (someday). 10 minutes worth of Neil Young tunes turned into two hours last night.....that's the way it should be.

Congrats - great guitar. I've had one for 2 or 3 months and I absolutely love the thing. I have Martins that cost more - much more - than the 000-15M, and right now I really prefer the tone of the little mahogony guitar. There's something about it that seems so organic, simple, and truly enjoyable to play. It's the first guitar I reach for these days.

I borrowed a 00 a few years back for a project and really enjoyed it.
I have been consolidating things also and putting some of the money into reviving a couple of nice guitars that I have picked up over the years, but not used. One of them was a HD 28 with a cracked top, had it gone over and it's killer.
Everyone should own a "keeper" acoustic, it may involve making some difficult choices, but it's worth it in the end.

Those all-mahogany Martins are just fabulous. So many folks get focused on a spruce top that the mahogany models get overlooked.

Congrats to the OP. I like the "10 minutes....turned into 2 hours," that's what it's all about.

I got my 000 15M last year and love it. When I saw the butterbean tuners and snowflake inlays, I had to have one.

And my first big purchase guitar was a D16R in 2007. If I knew about Martin models like a do now, I probably would have shelled out more and got the D28, but back then the D16R sounded the best in the shop that day (and I'm certain there was a D28 because I played one about $500 more that looked the same to my untrained eye) so that's what I went home with!

The D16R and my 000 15M are my Martin keepers unless a real bargain fell in my lap.

Do you know who Peter Mulvey is? Peter is from Milwaukee and he is a great writer and he gigs a 00015. He and Patty Larkin (also from Milwaukee) are two of my all time favorites.

Peter usually plays alone. I don't know who the talented and beautiful lady is but this is a great 00015/Mulvey song. I cover a simplified version of this song.

I'm not worthy of an acoustic that's that nice. I don't play acoustic enough, ( but maybe that's because I don't have a nice acoustic.) I currently have an Epiphone PR 5E (one of the older Korean models.) I'm thinking of upgrading to a Taylor 114, maybe even a 214. What did you think of your 214 ?

I too have a rattlesnake rattle in my 000-16GT. Can't remember if I have one in the fiddle, too.

I liked my 214 a lot...mine was an older one from when they were 100% solid wood. They changed to the laminated rosewood backs and sides in 2007 (I think).

My 210E was newer with the laminated backs and sides and my 214 had solid mahogany back and sides (older). Both nice guitars....I just love my D15 and I couldn't stop thinking about the 00015M after I played a couple of them. The Martin is more of a keeper (for me) than the Taylors. I still have a GS Mini and my camper is a Big Baby.

I like the new 114 better than the 214. They both sound balanced and pretty. Both have solid tops and laminated backs and sides. If you invest up to the 214 you're getting really sexy laminated wood. I would just get the 114 and play it and take it places. Stock 200's with no electronics are $800. That's a steep price for a guitar that isn't solid wood. Heck the 00015M was $975. The 00015M's get advertized at $1100 due to dealer MAP price rules but nice Martin shops don't charge $1100 to people walking in off the street. I'm babbling. My point is that the laminated Taylor 200's are pretty expensive. I like the 114's.

If you want a really nice guitar that has a solid top and laminated back & sides that plays well and sounds very nice and you don't want to break the back get a Yamaha FG700S.

I have the Yamaha FG720S. I tried a bunch of guitars that were in my price range, and the FG720S stood out. I even asked the salesman to play all 3 and tell me what he liked, and didn't about them. Even though the FG720S was the cheapest of the 3, he told me that he liked it the best sound wise, which is all that really matters.
I have played several Martins at the store, and all of them were head and shoulders above my Yamaha, but like I said earlier in the thread, I could never justify buying one. Of course this is based on the amount that I actually play my acoustic as compared to my electrics and my limited skill level. I do appreciate them though and just because my playing doesn't deserve one, you never know.
