Epiphone AlleyKat
Played a few-years-old one today.
Nice guitar. Anybody have one? Small body...like a 339. And...an...is it possible....? Ebony board? Sure looked like it to me. Hard to get that on a $300 guitar! |

I had a WildKat a few years ago which was a real dud of a guitar. About a year ago I picked up a used FlameKat for next to nothing and it's a very nice guitar. It plays great and sound great. All three models (FlameKat, AlleyKat, WildKat) have the same body design. Only the pickup pairings are different.
The FlameKat has 2 mini humbuckers. The FlameKat is also just about the ugliest guitar ever so I've repainted mine. I'm just waiting for some nicer weather to finish the job. Anyway, all that to say that "yes" the fretboard on my Flamekat is definitley ebony. Here's a stock FlameKat. Ugleeee..... ![]() Here's mine repainted. I was going for a Gretschy green look. I like that the flames are still visible. I was hoping that might happen.

I owned one for a while. Definitely a rosewood board on mine.
The bridge pickup on those sits a little further away from the TOM and I never could find a sound I liked from it. Then the body warped. Great idea, poorly executed, at least in the one I had. EG |

I have a FlameKat, love the look, like the feel, but I can't seem to bond with the Epi mini-humbuckers.
So, I had my pal Pete at Vintage Vibe rewind a pair of dead Dearmonds from a mid-sixties Harmony I had laying around, gonna load those up (once I get around to it). He makes most of his pups three-conductor (independent ground/shield), so I should be able to do a few phase/series tricks with a Superswitch 5-way replacing the 3-way. I'm hoping for the best of all worlds - vintage Harmony Rocket tone, modern construction. Should be fun.
