Wound G on ES125 - doesn't sound right
Hey fellas, I tried switching to a set of Daddario 12's with a wound G on my ES125 to see what the difference is and while the tone is somewhat beefier (better intonation too!),the string balance seems out of whack.
I tried adjusting the P90 polepieces to compensate for the wound G (all the way in below the B and cranked up close to the G) but the G string still sounds anemic compared to the other strings when played with a pick or fingerstyle. Is that just the way it was in the old days or is there a better set of strings out there? |

I love D'Adderio 12's with a wound G.... It's what I use on my Tele and Strat.
Just a thought, but is the wound G string binding in the nut slot? When I started using the Wound G, I had to have my nuts looked at (I know, go ahead and joke) but both guitars needed a few swipes with a nut file and then they sounded amazing! As an acoustic guitar player first and foremost, I LOVE 12's with a wound G on my Electrics. Makes me feel right at home with an electric guitar. |
