Yeah I heard others raving about how nice they are, but they have got to be about the least expensive P90 pup on the market right now, and that did play around in the back of my mind ("You get what you pay for", "No way something that cheap can compare with a Duncan, A Lollar, a Flavor of the Month", "Is it even going to work when I hook it up?", etc). But once I plugged it into my amp, I cracked that "A" Power Chord, and all those sounds from all those great recordings of the classic songs I so love, just slammed into my ears! Jr's too me, dont have a "Twang". Oh you can coax it out of em. But I just hear this, primordial "Kerang" sound from em! And this lil geetar has that Kerang in Spades!!!!!!!!!! |

Do you scratch the hell out of a pickguard when you play? It would be better to scratch a guard than the beautiful finish on your guitar.
Aesthetically, your guitar doesn't need a pickguard, to me. Unless you are gonna scratch the finish by playing it. Which is funny, because I will usually gravitate towards a pickguard based on looks, but here I would choose it based on whether it was needed. I think a simple la cabronita style pickguard in black would be s-l-e-e-k |

In other words, it's not going to be some monstrous pickguard, but more elegant and minimalist, just to keep with the flow of the guitar. |

I'd keep it just the way it is. Very simply elegant. Let your fingers be the flash on that bad boy.

Well, I've decided:
I'm messing around with some pickguard designs. It's not going to be a massive, or gawdy design. Just a simple, black, single-ply pickguard, and I'm gonna try to keep to the LP Jr/Tele hybrid concept. I got some black construction/art paper, and I'm gonna come up with a couple designs. I'll post pics of my ideas..... |

that shape pf a pick guard could work. i usually take them off. unless you cant like on my rg350. id go ahead and make one up and throw it in the case for down the road.. in 60 years who knows. but im sure they will think its cool it has a optimal pick guard.

Your guitar has got a great unique look. Like I said before, I would leave her plain but you are wanting a pickgaurd. So, my suggestion is do something more alive than the template you did. To me it doesn't flow so well with your guitar shape.
Making a pickgaurd can be frustrating sometimes in making something unique. Here is a drawing of a tele style guitar I am building right now. Without a direct copy I would say a pickgaurd sort of like this like this would look good on your design. Try it out and let's see. I would cut it so that it does not surround the bottom horn. Rounded like a Tele Custom pickgaurd in that area but more rounded, no dip. Great guitar you have there. Congrats again. Please no one take offense to Johnny in the picture.

Dirty Al and Loser Geek, thanks for the inspirations.
I have gone back and tweaked it some, but my dang camera died! I took my design in the photos there and extended it some up under the strings and where a neck pup would be. Much better flow. But I want to keep it minimalist, because there are a couple of small knots that look really sweet on the face, and I didn't want to cover em up. As soon as I get my camera sorted out, I'll shoot another photo. PraiseCasters G1 using TDPRI App |
