Well, that looks like a '64-65 Melody Maker. I snagged a '60 single cut in even worse condition, and I'm glad I did the way prices are going up.

For $350, it might be a fun project to put back together. I'd consider it, especially since the '64 I let go of was one of the guitars I really wish I hadn't. Fortunately I kept the '62.

I don't think it's the 'deal of the century' or anything (that's why I usually get really exited about finds like this anyway, before I do some googling and invariably get disappointed, haha).

Seems like a fair price and could work out to be a nice guitar if you've got some time and skill though. I say go for it if you can do it.

I talked to the guy on the phone and didn't get a real sense of confidence. Sounds like too many parts missing. I'm gonna pass. Thanks for your replies.

I'd have bought it and turned it into a player. $350 is a fair price for old mahogany if the pickups are there and the neck is in one piece.

I've owned a few 60s MMs, and they're fun guitars.

What's going on there, around the controls?

Looks like the guard is being held on by masking tape.

I love my 64, but $350 for that pile of parts is more than I would spend. Like StrangerNY said maybe you could make a player out of it, but with all those parts missing it wouldn't have the value of a real MM.

As has already been said masking tape, the tortoise shell celluloid that Gibson used on those MMs depolymerized over time , I had to replace the guard on my "63 for that reason. They are liable to crack around the jack mount.I'd probably go for it myself, all the missing parts are available and they were made of nice mahogany. Worth putting the time and money into, I miss mine.
