looking for an SG !!!!!!!

now that I have located and bought a 1972 Electra LP copy my next venture would be an SG model if possible an older model and it doesn't have to be a Gibson or Epiphone what would be my option's (brand) or should it stick to an Epiphone. please keep in mind that Im on a restricted budget 400.00>500.00 $ if possible and I love the darker red or light brown SG

Keep your eyes peeled for a Gibson Faded SG. They can be had used for US$400 or so pretty easily, and are actually terrific guitars. Great bang for the buck.

Faded Gibson

I agree , the faded Gibson SGs are nice guitars, I'm not crazy about the faded finish but they play well and sound good, and it's a real Gibson that you can buy used for what you'd pay for an Epiphone or other copy new.

For a bit more you can get the next model up SG with the nicer finish , I've seen the non faded USA made Gibson SGs sell for $500 too.

If you look at the Faded SG series check in the control cavity. Mine is a 2001 and has traditional pots and 3 way. I had bought a 2007 or 2009 model recently and it had pc board and ribbon wiring in it. It was sold the next day. I can say the tone was a little more on the tinny and bright side and repairs in it would seem be near impossible without ripping everything out and starting fresh. The '01 plays like a champ though. I'll probably always have it in a setup.

I also want an SG or a Firebird but I can't seem to find one I like the way it plays. I do think the Gibson faded ones sounded pretty nice and you can find them at a good price used.

I paid $99 for this Douglas from Rondo music on sale. They normally run about $139 and they also carry an Agile which is the same platform with better hardware, pups and a set neck for about $150 more, IIRC. I replaced the pups and put in push/pulls while I was at it for coil split and out of phase. The build quality of the neck, body, binding and finish is absolutely flawless. No neck dive, either. I'm impressed. Worth a serious look if you don't have to have a Gibson or Epi.

I have a few Epiphone SG's and I have zero complaints about them! Some of the tuners could be swapped out if you want, but past that they are awesome!

If you want an SG, I'd say pick up an Epiphone. I'm a fan!

Agreed, got one of these recently for £200 including reasonable gig bag and next day delivery. Big neck, cool looks and, after a restring and setup (one fret was a tad high), it plays and sounds way beyond my expectations!
