Best partner for a Tele

HHi,

I am thinking on buying a new guitar. I have a J&D Tele-like with some upgrades and I am looking for something different to complement it.

My amp is a Fender Mustang III and I my musical references are british blues, blues, indie rock, garage rock, hard rock, punk rock… something like the Kings (BB, Albert e Freddie), Buddy Guy, Cream, Fleetwood Mac (Peter Green’s not the others), Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Radiohead, The Hivesco, The Strokes, The Pixies, The Clash, Arctic Monkeys, The Smashing Pumpkins, The Stooges, The Doors, and so on…

Since I have a single coil guitar I has thinking on buying a double humbucker guitar, and I guess that a semi-holow body guitar would be a good partner for a tele.

I was thinking on a Hofner Verythin CT (380/400€) or an Ibanez AS73 (350/380€). The Hagstrom Vinking is also an option, although more expensive.
Do you think that a semi-hollow guitar would be a good option considering the musical genres that I play? Or would it be better to buy a solid-body guitar (the Hagstron Swede is also an option).

I really would like a suggestion.

Thank you and best regards,

Nuno.

P.S.: sorry the English.

AS73 is good. Also: Think hard about an SG-style. They are (to my mind) the perfect solid-body companion to a tele. Similarities: Basic/functional, simple controls, relatively light. Contrasts: mahogany vs. ash/alder/whatever, mahogany neck vs. maple, hum vs. SC, country vs. rock shape.

Gretsch is very expensive here in Portugal. And I cannot find a Gretsch semi-hollow under 500€. :(

I know money will always be an issue.
If you can find a Les Paul at a decent price, they will get along like the best of friends.

The SG is interesting. In fact, there are a lot of guitar players that I admired that played SGs: Kappa, Krieger, Eric Clapton (Cream), Iommi, Young. The problem is that an SG is way over 500€ (my budget).

Epiphone Dot? A lot of guitar for the money and cheap enough you can mod as money permits without having to worry about ruining an expensive guitar.

Probably too expensive for you but a 335 is best friends with my '52RI and Baja.

I vote for the Hofner Verythin CT. That would be very, very, VERY cool.

I have a Hofner CT Club, and it's a really good guitar, for not much money.

I'd go with something semi- hollow or a hollow body .

Thank you for all the answers.

@ String Tree: It's not easy. The only LPs that I can find are Epiphones and some other comparable copies and I find the Swede a better guitar than the Epi.

@ KBCL: I tried the Dot in the same shop and I did a fast comparison with the Verythin and the AS73 and the Dot seemed to be of inferior quality. The Sheraton II was way better but I did not like the gold hardware.

@ nickrom: I haven’t tried it either, but I have an eye on the Epi ES-339.

@ paratus: The ES-335 is also too expensive.

@ beep.click: I really liked the one I tried. It seemed very well made. The AS73 also, but I liked the Hofner better. I couldn’t try the CT Club and the CT Club Solid, but I have read some good opinions about it.

@ vibrasonic: that is exactly what I am thinking. I do not discard a solid, but right now I am more inclined to buy a Semi.

I had a Thinline Tele and an SG as my only two guitars for years. Great contrast. I think something with humbuckers and semi hollow would be a great partner to a solid Tele. However for a full range of tones, I'd suggest sticking a P90 in the neck of the semi...

Yeah they can be hit or miss. It's one of those guitars that if you can find one that plays well, it's a great value. But there can be some questionable ones out there as well.
