Christmas? I got it the day it came out. its fun, starts off REALLY slow though. I guess its for people who have never touched a guitar. you can't turn up the difficulty, so you have to play single strings for awhile. like I said its fun, I don't know that I am "learning" anything other than picking up riffs from songs I may or may not wanna know. My guitar playing time went from about 30mins a day to an average of about 2 hours. the day I got it I played for about 4 hours.
The mini games are the work out, scales, cords, fret and hand location awareness. I spend more time on those.

Ive played and honestly found it confusing. I regularly play a few songs from the game live and they graded me "wrong" .... I assure you they are not LOL . Learn from recordings, and reading real music, IMHO you'll learn faster and be able to use what you learn much better

I've had it for a few days now. Things I noticed:
My mistake: Right when I turned it on I immediately scrolled through the songs and picked out a few I knew by heart. I played them and played them well. The problem? The game "learns" your skill level as you play. I made the game think I'm a lot better than I really am. It has slowly started to dumb down to my actual skill level, but nonetheless, it was a mistake and made the game not so fun for awhile. Observations: It may just be my setup, but I have noticed a decent .5 second delay in sound. The music on the game is great. Lots of smaller more "indie" bands and less billboard rock anthems. The game does NOT like cheap guitars. I mean cheap as in beat up old tiescos. The first guitar I grabbed was an old 60's harmony beater I've had for years. Notes weren't registering and I was failing songs even though I was playing them right. As long as your guitar holds tune and has decent intonation you should be just fine. I chuckled at myself as I paused the game and plugged my expensive Gibson in. Overall the game is fun. The songs are good and I imagine it would be really fun to jam with a friend. MY favorite feature is the "guitarcade" where you can build speed and dexterity through exercises while killing zombies (just one example, there's lots of different games). I sat down after work the other day and didn't stop playing for about 5-6 hours. I would NEVER sit and practice that long on my own, but somehow, it kept me engaged the whole time. My hands were hurtin somethin' fierce though. |

I will not be getting this. I don't even like the idea of this. I worked hard to get where I am on guitar. I didn't use youtube or take guitar lessons. I learned by spending hours in my room trying to figure out what the hell the guitar on "Day Tripper" was. This is like a cheap way to learn to play guitar. It takes the passion and reward out of learning guitar...

We've got it and I think it's great as long as you consider it a game.
I like that it "reads" your ability and makes suggestions for practice. My problem is I have trouble deciphering what the screen wants me to do. I actually play worse if I pay attention to the numbers and artist's interpretation of a fretboard than when I listen for the key and timing. It doesn't really help anyone learn music as it doesn't relate to either notation or tab, but I concede you could learn any of the programmed songs, by heart, if you follow the game through and practice. Overall, it's a lot of fun and lots of great music I probably wouldn't know about otherwise.

I have a bad habit of buying games and watching them rot, in their cases.
That being said... I'm finding it hard to resist the new Kirby WII game... uh oh.

Was really looking forward to it. Especially as I've been trying to go from bass and it would have helped.
But no, some ejit has copyrighted the name so it's not getting released in Europe yet |

run analog cables from the console to your receiver, no audible delay with analog for me anyway.

Get off your pedestal and look at RockSmith for what it is, directed towards new-comers to the guitar, and not dudes playing Beatles songs over the last 40 years. I'm sorry if it bothers you that the Guitar Player's Club isn't as exclusive as you want it to be, or that it somehow takes away from your guitar skill that new players are learning with tools produced with new technology. |

Already got it!
I don't know that I'm doing too hot learning the songs on the game, but my instructor said my strumming and chord formation really improved a lot more than he expected since my last class. Despite what other folks around here might think, I guess this "game" is good for something! |
