help finding a baritone guitar

I need some help trying to find my first baritone guitar. I plan on using it mostly for surf music but I might try using it to write some punk music also. My budget is about $350. I would prefer single coil pickups but humbuckers are okay as long as I can still get a good twang out of them. I would also like for the guitar to have a tremolo but from the research I've done it seems that may be a little hard to find for my budget. If it matters I plan on keeping this guitar in b standard so I don't want something like a Fender VI (unless I'd be able to get it setup for b standard.) Thanks in advance.

The easiest thing to do is buy a Dano Baritone neck from their website and convert one of their RI models. It's a bolt-on deal; about $160- all you will need is the strings, and it will have the single-coils and the twang you're after. It's a true 30" scale, not an "extended scale" 26 1/2-28" shredder-type guitar. I bought the Dano neck and built my own, but I could have just slapped it on my 63 RI.

+1 for the Dano - I converted a 56 Pro RI, fits your tonal description 100%, no tremolo, though:

Baritone pics

Dano made these several years ago...I probably got it back in 2004-05 (?). It has several built in 'effects' (9v powered) echo/fuzz/tremelo/chorus as I remember. Sadly it hasn't got the lipstick tube pickups...I'd ordered one from Musician's Friend and they were out of that model (with lipstick tubes) and sent this one instead. It has got a whammy bar and the original Dano tweed case. The effects are ok-weird LOL...what do you expect from something built in? The pups are low output and clear, the trem works pretty smooth...haven't really played it too much it really sounds pretty cool...I happen to have a Roland GK3 I could attach...hmmm I think I see next weekends project looming on the horizon.

Eastwood makes a couple of nice ones too. Deals can be had from Instrument Alley online.

I have had a Dano, and a Schecter HellCat VI. If I had it to do all over, I'd have never gotten rid of the HellCat. Great guitar, a little more "Fendery" and it eats the Dano for lunch. If you can find one of those used, get it. Used they're about the same price too.

By the way.... the Schecter can be set up EITHER B-B or with Bass VI strings as E-E. I've used it both ways.

So... did you have to do anything special to convert this to E-E?

The price is higher than what you've listed, but a nice option to consider.

I picked up one of these at a guitar show about a month ago for $275.00. Keep your eyes open and good luck!

I have a Dano baritone Classic in "spaghetti western" yellow. I started off with the usual B-B tuning but get a lot more out of it tuned A-A.
