And now for something completely different
I posted this over at TGP too - I've always played traditional guitars. Mostly Fender (strats, teles), the occasional Les Paul or SG. All I have now are teles and strats. But I've been thinking about adding something totally different into the stable. Non-vintage, really modern. The various Parker guitars look interesting, but there's several models and then sub-variations within each model, and I don't know enough about them to really know the differences.
My problem is I don't know a thing about guitars that aren't vintagey, Fender/Gibson/Gretsch instruments. Don't get me wrong, I still love my teles and strats and all that, I just want to throw something completely off the ranch into the mix as well. What's out there? What's really interesting, really different, but still great sounding and playing? Our lines are open, call now. |

Check out some of the Schecter offerings. They are really well built versitile guitars. They look really nice too. I'm a Tele and Les Paul guy for the most part. But I love my Schecter.

A friend of mine was in exactly the same position last month after playing Fender Strats and Les Paul type guitars his entire life.
He wanted a versatile HB guitar, not as expensive as a genuine Gibson Les Paul. He ended up with a EVH Wolfgang Special. A real looker with an amazing birdseye neck and a super big sound! It plays great, has a Floyd Rose tremolo flat against the body, a drop D button (!) and two great sounding humbuckers. ![]() He had never thought he'd have a modern guitar like this, but he says it plays ten times better than his best strat! My take is that if you stay away from the main brands there's a lot of guitar for sale for less money then you'd think (allthough this was still appr. 1000 euro). |

Find a Godin dealer and play everyone the store has. If you want something that looks like it came from another planet check out the DiPinto Galaxie

Somehow my deeply intelligent post got lost. What kind of music do you play and what do you want to expand in to? This will help us make suggestions.

thanks for all the advice and great pics - as a follow-up: I went way outside my comfort zone and decided on one of these:
![]() maybe try to learn some 8-finger tapping stuff, something really different than blues/country/classic rock. |
