Well I got back from the Vintage fair and that means NGD.

But before I reveal what I bought, first a little impression of the fair. Well the weather was nice, sunny but not too hot, I came across some familiar people and the general atmosphere was relaxed and friendly.

Nah, none of these ended up in my collection but that row of teles proved to be too hard to resist taking a picture of, certainly because of the fiesta red Tele Deluxe.

This Bolin flipped over custom number was rare and unique and way too expensive for me to buy but really good photographic material.

Of course there were the share of Lemons and badly repaired guitars too, the most violated of them all must have been this Lester.

The first thing I noticed about that one was that it missed a couple of frets but when I looked closer...

It turned out that that guitar had suffered a very nasty neck break and was repaired by drilling four holes through both the body and neck and then had dowels put in to get the neck into place. I figured that it wouldn't do harm to ask about how much the guy wanted for it, knowing from experience that guitars with issues like this go cheap, I fully expected to hear an asking price for around 500 Euro for it. But no, the asking price was a grand and he wasn't going to haggle either, so I told him to forget about it.

Anyway...

That's what I said in my previous thread and son of a gun, that is exactly what I did.

My first catch of the day was this tasty little number. A 1979 Ibanez CS 250

Like I said before, instruments with Issues usually go cheap, which was the case with this one. It had it's Super 70 Humbuckers replaced by late eighties Ibanez IBZ units and it needs some rewiring, nothing I can't fix though. It set me back 175 Euro.

My second catch was somewhat more expensive but I wanted one of these for a long time.

This 1980 Ibanez Roadster bass was for sale for 350 Euro but I haggled it down to 300 and the guys agreed, it's dead mint. It's Sting, it's Steve Harris, it's a Vintage Ibanez, it's COOL!

So here we are, it's not often that I hold onto a plan when I go to the fair but this time persevered and it paid off.

Beauties! Congratulations. My first bass was one of those Roadsters (but in mahogany brown). I loved that thing. And the CS250 is a gem too. I always lusted after one of the Artists from the same period but that would do me just nicely.

There actually was a stand there which only sold Left handed guitars, mostly Kramers though. (the metal neck ones)

Didn't even look at the Bolin, my eye was caught by the violin bass beside it.

Didnt you buy a guitar that was missing some parts last year? If so, did you fix it ? Please post pics if you did.

I bought a German made Hoyer Flying V, that I stripped and repaired a broken headstock, as we speak it's still in primer waiting for me to refinish it in Black.

So why am I covering this beautiful wood up?

Here's why, I don't want those patches to be visible if I want to make a profit on this one.

Well I did some research on the guitar, it's a CN-250 which was their top of the range model in their Concert series.

In addition to the replaced pickups, mine has mini switches to switch either pickup on or off and it has push-push coil taps for both pickups. Although I think I'm gonna fit a normal big three way toggle, much easier but I like the coil tap function on both pickups and Push-push selectors are much easier than Push-pull.

Very cool, I like the original look with gold pickups, versus the black replacements. Nice pair.

Plug those buggers and put the correct hardware on it. There could be some serious tone lurking in there, and you don't want anyone thinking you dressed up a garbage '80s Cort.

That's the thing, that Hoyer originally CAME with a Fender style bridge, the previous owner had drilled it for a Tune-o-matic and stop bar.

If I can get my Hoyer to look like this I'd be very happy.

Soooo......hide the repair from a buyer to make a profit

Christ on a bike!

I am doing my best to restore that Violated guitar to its former glory and somebody makes a fuss about me trying to make a dollar from it?

My whole plan here is to say at the fair that I restored the guitar and patched up the mismatching holes and refinished the whole thing, people are very critical at repairs, and the less one sees of a repair, the more one's profile as a repairman is respected.

This beautiful Sixties Aston Martin is bound to have repairs and replaced parts but the less one notices them and is being told what exactly has been done to bring the car back up to the condition you see it in, the more the person who did this Restoration will be respected and the more the car will fetch at an auction.

Am I really being dishonest by striving for that same level of perfection?

Ummm... what's the point in refinishing/repairing something and letting the damage show? Am I missing some sort of obscure joke here?

OK I'll give you the benefit of the doubt, if it is a great and awesome repair and you are proud of it let the buyer know. Personally I would respect and appreciate a seller letting me know what's going on, than one that is trying to hide something and I discover it myself.Call me "Old Fashioned" or naive, but I assume everyone is as honest as I am. This is the main reason I am NOT a salesman...I would be broke and/or poor. Business 101 is all about scamming the next guy and making a profit.

Back on track, congrats on the new catches. That CN-250 will be great when you get the correct pick ups in there. When I first started playing, the local music store had a black one hanging on the wall. Seeing yours brought back some memories
