Guitars that Shouldn't Exist

These bug (some aesthetically, some sociologically, most irrationally:
Framus
Steinberger
Ampeg Dan Armstrong
Laguna
Dean (shreddy metal types with the stupid devil horn headstock)
anything spider or insect-shaped
most Vees
2/3 of everything Ibanez makes
any $10k+ "replica" of some famous guy's beater
Share your irrational 6-stringed phobias and bugaboos!

JMHO all the good guitars came out by about 1960. Maybe a few in the 60s. After that things got wierd.

I don't know, I'd love to have a headless Steinberger bass. Never tried a Framus or Laguna, but I love the Keith Richards Get Yer Ya-Yas style clear Armstrong. Shredder guitars never did anything for me, including BC Rich and ESP, but I know guys who love them so there must be something to them. Insect bass guitars are cool if John Entwistle plays them. I thought I would like to have a Vee but I realize I'm more of an Explorer kind of guy. Replicas are cool, paying over $10K for them is not.

Lots of people hate Epiphones but I like them. PRS, Danelectros and solid body Gretsches never did anything for me, but lots of guys here love them and I respect that. To each their own and live and let live and all that.

You had me thinking there for a while ...I thought you said GuitarISTS that shouldn't exist...ooops..

that'd be a whole new thread...

20+yrs ago a mate found a Yamaha FJ45 acoustic at the dump.. looked like it had been "girlfriended".. stiletto heel holes in the back, sound board stomped in,, a bit bent..
he clamped the sound board back as straight as he could.. glued the cracks up with surfboard resin and f/glass... sanded it back "a bit" ha ha.. not much, no more than a fin chop ding.... got it playable again..
and it sounded OK, in fact he had a good FJ45 to compare it to, he sold that and kept the dump guitar.. I didn't mind playing it either.. the tone was rich and responsive still,,
and he loved the fact he could take it to parties and jams leave it anywhere,,and never worry that anyone would pinch it,

I guess that guitar shouldn't really exist, bulldozed into landfill, only for the fact the bloke spotted it on a rare visit to the dump that day...

Anything that was obtained with Top Value Stamps.

No disrespect to Kroger, but those "Checkmate" guitars with the mile high action probably killed a lot musical aspirations.

I'll probably get flamed for this, but Mosrites bug me.
Everything about em' bugs me.
The necks, pickups, body style, ect.
When I die, and go to heck, Ol' Nick will hand me one and point to the blues jam I gotta host.

Food for thought...

If there were no guitars that shouldn't exist, this thread wouldn't exist.

Thank you to all the ugly guitars. We salute you.

Could add to this list the new strat I got in about 91 or 92. Made in USA Lace pickups swimming pool size rout. The neck was ok. Traded it off on a flute for one of my girls. Still don't regret that trade.

So you're saying I have less value than a bug-shaped Dean with a devil-horn headstock, and shouldn't exist? You need to switch to the decaf and maybe not take somebody's light-hearted post quite so seriously.

As long as we're saying things that might get us in trouble, I've never heard anything I've liked played on one o them retrotron'd Bigsby-Gretsches... It always seems like they have too many fiddly thingamabobs on 'em. Please, prove me wrong!
