Buying that first electric...
I have been playing guitar for a little while now and am really interested in getting an electric. Ideally what I would like to play is blues, given time, so would appreciate some help if you can! I have been looking at a few and read reviews etc. Squier CV Custom Tele, Gretsch Jet Pro and my dads mate has a Hamer that he said I should have a look at but I know very little about them. Are there other guitars I should be looking at?? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

If you're looking at the lower end of the price range, I would consider the Squier Classic Vibe 50's Stratocaster. The 2-tone sunburst is really nice. Strats are great blues guitars. Check out one of Clapton's Crossroads concerts, you see way more Strats than any other guitar.

lots of guys like 335 style semi-hollows for blues, such as the Epiphone Dot. they are very versatile guitars and can handle rock and jazz easily as well:

Try as many as you can (shouldn't be a problem in Bristol) and see what you get on with best. Definitely consider one of the Squier Classic Vibe Teles or Strats. Good luck with your choice and remember that the Tele will get you in the end.

I def wish my first electric had bern a tele up to the quality of the current squiers! I had a plywood bodied strat that would not stay in tune!
My second guitar was a tele and have never looked back! Is really hard to go wrong these days, the quality is Infinitely better! |

A squire tele is probably a good start. I think the simplicity of a tele is great for beginners. A strat tremolo is more difficult to set up and keep set up I find, if you don't yet know what your doing.

Try all your options and take home the one that feels the nicest, regardless of pricepoint or what users on forums tell you about it man.

I remember my first electric back in 1988, it was a Rockson branded Pointy headstock strat-style thing with a plywood body and a neck that bowed.
I might sound like an old fart here but kids these days don't know how lucky they are with the quality of the beginners instruments these days.

I'll toss this one in from left field (an American baseball expression, mate): I believe late-1980s vintage Korean-built Hohner 'PROFESSIONAL' models are more common in GB than here in the US. I've found some to be extremely well built and great sounding. TE Custom (a tele), ST Special (a strat) and Gibson setneck LP-style model. You might find a nice one and put the savings toward a sweeter amp than you could afford otherwise. Just a thought.
