Trade Opinions.... Keyboard for Guitar?
Hey Guys,
I'm hoping some guys with a little more keyboard knowledge can help me out here. I've got a 1994 White Gibson Les Paul Studio and someone has offered to trade me a Yamaha Motif ES-8 straight up for it. The keyboard is in great condition and the original owner said it has about six months of playing time on it. Based on past ebay auctions, it definitely seems like I'd be coming out ahead value wise..... My wife's keyboard that she plays at church has pretty much crapped out and she's a lot more hesitant to spend our money on a high end keyboard for herself. This guitar is my #1 but I've got others and I know there's gonna be plenty more guitars in my future so I figured it could be cool to take advantage of this offer..... Any thoughts or opinions? |

I'm a keyboard player.
Dollars wise it is probably a somewhat equitable trade but going forward the guitar will hold its value better much better than the Motif. The ES is already two generations old. ( I am not a Yanaha guy but I think the XS and XF series have since replaced the ES series.) With the Motif ES you are getting a full blown workstation with a bunch of sequencer capability. This is OK if you are going to use it otherwise I would be tempted to keep the guitar if you like it and maybe buy a new 88-key instrument that doesn't have all workstation capability but has a new sound engine and sound set. But that is just me. PS - If you don't need a sequencers and a bunch of edit features I think the MM8 sounds nice and is a nice value. If you just want main a stage piano with some basic bread and butter type sounds the CP33 is a great little board. Both are around $1000 new. |
