did matsumoku make shaftsbury guitars?

I've been chatting to a pal who is trying to sell me his LP Shaftsbury copy and he says that it has a matsumoku mark on it. I tried Mr Google but he showed me no love on whether these guitars were made here in the 70s like he says. Does anyone know whether matsumoku made these models?

Cheers

Wow...Shaftesbury...my first guitar was a Shaftesbury "Tele Thinline"...a dreadful device.I'm not sure you could even call it a copy...made in Italy!
Later I briefly owned a Shaftesbury Ned Calllan Cody...UK made, apparently with some involvement by the outfit best known for the Shergold range...pretty bizarre, wish I still had it though...
If I'm correct they were a "house" brand, possibly used by Rose-Morris music at various times and most likely manufactured by a no. of different concerns...
Apparently the effects pedals were interesting in their day....
