I have a confession to make......

I fell in love with a 1972 Gibson ES 335 on Friday.
Found it at a local used guitar shop for a reasonable price and talked them down from that. It needs some TLC but over all great shape.
Bought it later that afternoon!
I had gigs all weekend and I was dying to play something new.

I had posted this a few days ago in my older thread, but it got buried.

I'm so excited about this one!

Any tips on how I can use it alongside my tele?
I find I have to completely change most of my levels when I switch guitars...

Ya the 335 is gonna be way louder.

Nothing wrong with 335's they rule a 1964 ES335 was my first good guitar in 1966 I loved it and would kill to have it back.

that thing looks great! love the body color. i think that and a tele will make an awesome duo. and nice Roadstar, too! i've always been a fan of those guitars.

Cool. Looks like the one Britt Daniel of Spoon plays.

You could always get a boost pedal to use with the 335, then click it off when you switch to the Tele. Or use an EQ pedal to cut the output of the Tele.

I had a '68 ES-340 in that color for years. It was my #1 for a long, long time.

All those years the Doobie Brothers had a Brownie too
- I always liked the feel of the narrow nut 70's 335s, congrats!!!

On the Volume issue, a few things will need checked
1- Magnet Gauss should be over 200 on the screws/poles - preferable about 350,
If their lower then 200 gauss- you'll need the magnets removed and recharged

2- Pots, although hard to get too.. if you ever do, then measure them to be sure they all read a strong 500k or slightly more.

3- height - chances are you can move the pickups closer then on the Tele.

enjoy!

Very nice. I just picked up on Sunday a Ibanez AS120 Artisian in white. The nicest guitar I have ever owned bar none. Made in 95 and outfitted with Gibson pups, but wish it had the original 58's in it. Has flat wounds on it and may change them out just haven't decided. It is a loud sucker for sure. Congrats, you can't go wrong with Gibson. thanks

I predict in a few years, you'll be working for the Department of Defense also.

Thats weird both my Les Pauls are way louder than my Teles. My LP's on 1 on the amp are as loud as my Teles are on 3.

Got that right. All of my humbucker guitars sound like they are on steroids compared to my Teles.

I don't think that would account for it. Do you have super hot Tele pickups?

I'm just a low-level hack, but if it was me I would try an EQ pedal and set it for the quieter guitar. When you play the Tele and want to use the ES, and don't want a volume change, stomp and switch. Or pretty much any clean boost, like an SD Pickup Booster. I don't know why that wouldn't do the trick. Those things are truly gorgeous; I have to make do with a black Epi Dot (it's ok, but...).

Cool looking axe you've got there, very Steve Howe, although his was a 345

Yes - "Close to the edge" live with Howe using the Stereo outputs of his Gibson to good effect
