the other thread just got me thinking.
so here it is.
you don`t have any money problems and somebody wants to buy you no1 guitar.
so tell me what guitar it is and what is the price yoiu are ready to let her go?
just please don`t give me that BS that some things are priceless nop offer etc.
i`ll go first. in the last year and a half i`ve had all my gerar changed. i`m primarely a songwriter so i value guitars mostly as na inspiration for song and naturally my fave is na 2008. gibson j185 and i`d let her go for 1950euros.(just dont` tell her;)
it is a bit more that in shops in my country but i bealive she is better tha the ones i have tried in the shops.
so shoot boys and girls don`t be shy.

My Taylor 714ce Imbuia/Spruce Spring Limited is "THE" acoustic guitar I've been searching for 30 plus years. The Brazilian Imbuia is a rare and hard to find tone wood, but I doubt if it's worth much more than I paid for it. Despite that, it would take at least double what I paid which would be $6000 to get it.

I own 11 guitars and they range from this one at the low end to my Martin DC Aura at the high end. This one is a Sigma/Martin D10 Anniversary. Only 100 built. I got it on trade for a dusty old upright piano. Solid mahogany back and sides. Bear claw spruce top. It's just incredible. There's just something about owning a really great guitar that cost very little. It makes you feel like you beat the system for once.

I can say I wouldn't part with my first good guitar, but when people wave money around, it becomes obvious really quickly that these are just "things" and they are not worth as much as what we can do for people. I have an 88 MIJ Squier Stratocaster that I bought new and never want to sell. But if I got a good offer, I know I'd have to sell it. The memories that go with it are worth more than the guitar. It would however, have to be significantly silly money; like what it would take to pay off the house. ($100K)

In a desperate situation, it would go for much less. But in your scenario of not needing the money, it would be the big dollars. Wave $20000 in cash though, and I'd be mighty tempted. :)

@Beachbum: That is one fine looking guitar - and I usually completely dislike acoustic guitars! Somehow it just looks 'right'. Nothing fancy, not at all showy - I can tell its a real gem just by looking at it.

Unanswerable. Too many variables. Most of my guitars are oddballs or modded in some way, and would be difficult to replace, so I'm unwilling to sell them. And they're not worth that much anyway. Only one has sentimental value, my '65 Danelectro. If I was offered $1000 today, I wouldn't take it. If I need the money, payday is coming. Ask me again when I'm unemployed and the cat needs surgery. Different answer entirely.

EDIT: I just noticed that you did specify "don't have any money problems" so I guess I'd have to say the for the Dano I'd accept market value plus enough extra to buy myself a guitar nice enough to make me forget the Dano for at least one calendar year.
