Epiphone ES-175

Sold off my USA-Gibson 335 that I was using for Jazz only with flatwounds.
Just couldn't justify all that cash---And to be truthful that guitar an 06 never blew me away---A nice sound/great look---but never took my breath away.

Have been using my Tele for the Jazz stuff and it gets a pretty good Jazz tone for sure.

But I really dig that classic hollow body vibe and woody tone--Wes/Burrell/etc...

Have always loved the 175 but the prices ---Ouch!

Heard a couple stock Epis played by some guys with pretty good chops and was blown away by their tone--truly the sound I think of when I think the "Jazz Tone"

So my Epi ES-175 is coming on the brown truck Friday 10/1

Any of you guys who own one want to chime in. OR any thoughts in general on the guitar.

Bought it new and MF gave me 20% off--a really cheap purchase. I am hoping it works out.

i dig the hollowbody vibe too, and like you went the less expensive route. for me it was the Ibanez AF75TD (the poor man's White Falcon).

the Epi 175 looks like a bargain. looking forward to your review after it arrives...maybe some pics too.

if this is any indication, you'll probably be pleased with it:

I have played them but I don't own one. Excellent construction and felt and sounded nice enough to gig with. For a while I had an Epi single pickup Zephyr Regent and it was great! (I wish I had kept it)
Some people have replaced the pickups with Gibson '57s but I am not totally convinced that is necessary. Of course, they ship with strings that are way to light for my taste so, before you make any other "upgrades" you might just want to try heaver strings or even flat wounds, depending on your taste or requirements.

I bit the bullet and bought a blonde Gibson ES175 in 1995 after an extensive search for a good jazz box....Have never regretted buying it.

For the price of a Gibson ES-175, I go for the Sadowsky Jim Hall instead. I see they have a new, smaller, hollowbody, too:

True, but an Epiphone ES-175 is much less expensive than its Gibson counterpart.

My bad. Just a wee bit of thread hijacking!
