Caught Franc Robert Tonight in Englewood, FL
So me and the wife went downtown tonight to see if anything was happening. Wound up at a marina that we'd never been to. There was a great 3 pc group there doing blues - "Allright!" Hey this guy plays a lot of Teles. Hey, he just tuned to an open G and now he's playin Honkey Tonk Women - with a slide! - I thought I was the only one that did that! So I go up and talk between sets. He pulls out a lap steel - same vintage as one I've got (his is black Mother-of-Toilet seat, same big fat single coil pickup, same string anchor, etc.). I asked what was the groups name? - and he says Franc Robert. Well son of a B, I know you from TDPRI! Small world indeed. Was hoping to catch you guys' show sometime, but thought I probably wouldn't because I don't get to Tampa that much.
Had a great time...Listened til the last song (Looked like the waitstaff wanted to git). You guys sounded great. Long tall Trent on bass and Dave on drums. Next time you guys are down this way, look me up (did you say Sept? Send PM for ph# - I'm only ~7 mi from the marina) - maybe we could do dual lap steels or dual slide. (Always wanted to do a double slide lead in fifths - never heard anyone do that; might be interesting.)
Anyway - nice meeting you guys. Great playin!
