Well for me the one solo that still gets my attention for sheer tone and taste is the 2nd James burton solo off Mystery train/tiger man medley from the 69 live in vegas album. The first is his take on Scottys original solo, then the 2nd he just makes the tele scream, honest to god that Tele sounds angry
this is the tamer 1970 version on the Paisley tele. starts at 2mins The one other solo that just makes me smile is Gary moore`s version of Key to love, its outrageous

+2 or +3, (I lost track....but Mr. Gilmour is certainly getting appropriate recognition. I use his GHS guitar strings but for some reason I just don't sound like he does...)

Lots of great ones already listed. I'll add:
Zep - Fool in the Rain Blind Faith (Clapton) - Presence of the Lord Zappa - Black Napkins King Crimson (Fripp) - Larks Tongues Part 1 (the really chromatic distorted solo) Also the first solo from Exiles on the USA album. Hendrix - Machine Gun Richard Thompson - Jealous Words ( and so many other ones) Jim Hall - Hi Lili Hi Lo Crikey, there are so many great ones, I think the whole concept of picking one favorite is crazy. -Mr. N.
