Last time this video was posted, no one could identify the guitar player with certainty AFAICR.

The original studio recording had Bobby Womack and Reggie Young on guitars though.

I'd really like to know who the player in the video is ...

So would I.

He's not an "anonymous" looking guy - anyone who has met him, or seen other images of him ought to be able to identify him. He sounds real good in the mix.

Could be ... He was a bandleader for Wilson Pickett at one time and would have been around 25 at the time of this live recording. Yeah, could be.

Seems it can't be "Skip" Pitts after all ... He played with WP around 1967/68, and this performance was recorded in 1972 when Pitts had already started playing with Isaac Hayes.

I've not been able to find any old pics of Pitts though, so it's hard to say for sure ...

Wilson's star had already fallen some, and this performance could be a sort of one-off. This could be someone else's ensemble, could be Isaac's people for all I know.

Since this is a post-63 Tele (close 12th fret dot markers) it has to be a Firemist Gold (504).

If it was a 1961 - 63 model it would have been Shoreline Gold.

Some of the best rhythm and fill playing I've ever heard and that voice of Pickett's, wow. That man could sing. Emotion, range, phrasing he had it all.

Great video Tdub. Thanks for posting it.

Hello Hello---

Any way to "back engineer" that video and find out what show it came from?? Any "Soul Train" DVD comps or collections that would have this included ?? Maybe there will be a list of the players ["House Band" or something....]
Really worth checking out!

That is definitely possible, though I can't find anything that links him to WP. He recorded an album for Stax though, and may well have played in a house band backing WP on that occasion. I'm not totally convinced though.

Oh, where is Tjarko (olewichita) when we need him the most ... ? Yeah, I know he's busy playing, but still ...

One of the notes on this vid identify the guitarist as Jimmy Liston Owens...looks like the same guy...look at 1:19 through 1:27. So far i haven't found any other link.
