Tedeschi-Trucks band

We heard this fine troupe in Indianapolis a couple nights ago. They put on a great, varied show - everything from a few acoustic blues numbers to R&B to atonal shred. Everybody in the band got spotlighted at least once during the set, and all deserved it. Derek's solos were, predictably, amazing, but there were also memorable solos by Maurice Brown on trumpet and Oteil Burbidge (on a banjo bass, no less). Susan only played one real extended solo, but she ripped it hard.

I didn't care too much for the Revelator album, but this was one of the best shows I've seen in a long time. If you can't get to a show, the new CD is pretty representative of what they're doing now.

Stoked as hell....I'm seeing them in Pittsburgh tonight. I'm a HUGE Tedeschi fan (and I love her playing)...but Derek just takes it to a whole different planet !

Saw them back in October. Amazing band, they just ripped the place up. They played some Sly Stone that was killer. Just received the new cd in the mail but haven't listened to it yet. They also have a live EP in the stores that is a great intro to them. I paid $3 for it. Go see this band if you get the chance!

I think it is best I say nothing out of respect for Derek because of the things I think when I look at, and listen to, Susan.

Oh-oh...I've said too much already.

Well, tonight's show had to be in my top 3 live acts...just BLEW the crowd away. Susan's vocals and solo on "That Did It"...I needed a cigarette after that...she worked the solo to build and build and explode. My favorite guitar moment of the night. Derek played his SG all night, Susan had the aqua American Special, a Sunburst Strat ! and a blonde tele for the encore...and that D'Angelico NY'er for "That Did It". A pair of Super Reverbs for her (and an old Tweed Deluxe. Derek had a Super Reverb, Super Reverb head and a PRS amp.
Some of the best live sound mixing I've heard in a totally open, amphitheater.

If you can, catch TTB live...you'll leave smiling.

I really like the Revelator album, though I suspect I'll like the new live album more.

I saw them last year and was really disappointed. I've seen Tedeschi several times and was always blown away, and I've seen Trucks a couple of times and was left dumbfounded, but I think I saw them on an off night because it just wasn't clicking that well. It wasn't bad, it just wasn't memorable.

I hope they come to town again and do it right :-)

I think Derek Trucks just in and of himself is todays leading young player in general.
I think I like him and his taste even better than Bonamassa. Both are Gods of guitar but if Bonamassa dropped off the Earth, I'd never really miss him. Derek Trucks on the other hand, is like having Duane reincarnated in my lifetime. Kind of what Duane wouldve been had he lived long enough. I really believe Derek is the embodiment of what Duane started.

Oh..I forgot to add I alos love Susan Tedeschi - she's one of a kind in the business right now. She can belt it out like Janis, or sing it pretty like Bonnie R. The difference is Tedeschi is a stylist and bends syllables like nobody alive today in the female pop genre.

Oteil is easily my favorite bass player.
I hope you got to hear him sing. His take on "Franklin's Tower" is amazing.

No lead vocal from Oteil, unfortunately. They did put Mike Mattison out front for a couple tunes.

JoeBo who ???

Susan's voice was perfect at the Pgh show...on pitch, powerful or sultry and had that huge grin the whole time (when she wasn't madly attacking the string on the her D'Angelico NY'er during "That Did It".)

They need better tunes - originals are kinda weak. I love their covers though - Space Captain kills.

Susan is a strong singer and guitarist, but I feel the Derick Trucks Band is a much stronger entity. Theres alot of talent present together, but I hope it just an
experiment. They are both major talents, but I found the DTB to have an edge that isn't present in the current form.

I guess that's what I didn't like about Revelator. (It's probably no coincidence that my favorite of Susan's albums is Hope and Desire, which is al covers.) However, the live version of Bound for Glory outdoes the studio version quite thoroughly.

I was hoping for Space Captain in Indy, but no such luck.

I think they are both better together, than apart, in every way.
Truly a great team deal. Trucks makes Susan's songs better, richer.
I do agree that Derek should continue solo stuff too though and continue working with different artists, because he makes almost anyone, better.

He's the first one I'd call if I could have any slide player, even over Cooder.

Just wow - that is the collaboration at it's finest in every sense - timing, dynamics and everyone in the zone. Derek is very fortunate to have hooked up with Susan and vice versa. They are good apart, they are great together.

Good lord, "Midnight in Harlem" was written by Mike Mattison of the DTB, so it's not a cover, it's an original that was written during the Soul Stew Rival. You guys are a tough crowd, let's hear your originals ?

Wow - do I ever feel stupid.....my apologies to anyone offended by this piece of ignorance.
I just assumedf because that name isn't original, that neither was the tune.
Never saw the writers credits, seems impossible to copywrite that name however, they must've just copywrited the arrangement. No?

Not picking on you Chabby, some of the other comments on "weak" material for the TTB got me thinking...geesh, the Allman Brother Band has had a TON of weak material, only saved by good guitarists over the decades.

fwiw - I think "Midnight In Harlem" is one of the finest tunes written and performed in the past 20 years....it's beautiful, emotional and well arranged. Like many others have said, when I put the 2010 Crossroads DVD on, I go straight to that track and play it over and over>

Hey...peace to all. It's all opinion, sorry.
