Pink Floyd = Iron Maiden Tone

I was watching Pink Floyd perform "All Lovers Are Deranged" on Youtube and realized that Gilmour had a very similar tone during the solo in that song to much of Iron Maiden's "Somewhere in Time" album in spite of him only using single coils.

Found that to be cool. Never heard of that Floyd song before.

Don't forget that ol' Dave has been a fan of the EH Big Muff Pie pedal and a keen user of EMG SA active pickups, so it isn't really all pure single coil sound with him.

He has a cool lead sound going here.

But to say that it sounds like this...

Nah it sounds fuller, thicker.

I agree. It is a thicker sound, but still sounds so familiar. Now you have me doubting myself. Still....something familiar there.

Some useless trivia: that song was originally released on DG's 'About Face' album, and is co-written with Pete Townsend, if my memory serves me right. Really cool tele on the album cover too.
