I saw Ms. Hoffs a couple of weeks ago, performing at McCabe's. I was especially impressed by this one guitar player she had in the band, a fellow named Val McCallum. He was awesome. Anyone know about this guy?

@ mal paso, thanks again buddy for the PM with the youtube instructions, that's why I did this thread.

I would love to see her and them live sometime if they get close to here, just picked up the last few albums and her sessions with Matthew Sweet, it's all good stuff.
I guess in the 80's I just wasn't aware of how good they can really play, but seeing videos of their live stuff, they're really good musicians as well as writers.

@ Grant Orino, I found this vid on youtube about Mr. McCallum, his father is David McCallum the actor. Pretty cool. He is a fantastic musician.

I like this one...everyone's in the pocket...a kickin' band doing a catchy pop song.

I love the Bangles, but I'd never refer to them that way. It'd be like talking about "John Lennon and The Beatles". She's a Bangle, not their bandleader.

There, got that rant out of the way (and please don't take it TOO seriously!).

Love this band, and everything about them. I have 2 young daughters and I try to intruduce them to females like this that play instruments and write good songs.
Susanna is so fine.

Thanks Tim, you're right about that, I even figured out how to edit my title (no small feat, btw).
I suppose Susanna being more prolific as a solo artist inspired my original title, (and that my 3 Rickenbacker guitars are named after her in some form)

Just wanted to thank the other posters for adding some more cool vids to this thread, hadn't seen some of them so thanks again.

Yeah that is one of the many reason why the band broke up in late 80's. Cause the management they had when the replace Miles Copland was make Susanna the leader and that didn't settle to well with others.

I was on the same bill as the band a couple of years back. The lineup was largely 70'/80's and they were headlining the whole festival. 'Walk Like An Egyptian' as above was the only song they played as you'd expect- the rest of their set was in a strummy alt rock/country style, and as a result cleared 90% of the field.

It was a shame; as I remember they played well, and who could expect them to stick with the somewhat dated pop sound of the mid 80's for ever? But I guess that crowd was on a specific nostalgia trip, and the countrified sound turned them straight off.

Honestly, it doesn't sound like the band's choices were wise or fair to what Warren Zevon liked to refer to as the "customers."

"Susanna Hoffs is my type."

Oh yeah. Especially since she's aged so well.

Oh those "girls"...they opened for Cindy Lauper when I was at Penn State. I was in charge of backstage hospitality at the venue. I had a "star" sign made for their dressing room...they squealed when they saw and I got hugs from all of them as a thank you. I still remember my room mate getting them to sign is chemistry text book....they even ate dinner with all of us crew members before the show...really nice folks.
