Yup...and Wayne Bennett is the man, too.

Ultimate cover list now is Hendrix-All Along the Watchtower, CCR-I Put a Spell on You and Bobby Bland-Stormy Monday.

Kman-the Neville Brothers did a nice take on Fly Like an Eagle.

I'm gonna humbly suggest Alman Brothers Statesboro Blues beats the original and edges out Taj Mahal's version.

Classic Roy

A bit of a modern twist

I like both but I would have to give the nod to the Van Halen cover

I always preferred CSNY's Woodstock to the original by Joni, which is odd, b/c I love Joni.

I love Leonard Cohen, but Hallelujah belongs to Buckley now.

And yes, all Along the Watchtower is hard to beat!

King Curtis playing 'A Whiter Shade Of Pale' does it for me every time:

I'd say Devo's version of 'Satisfaction' at least equals the Stones' original.
Manfred Mann's 'Blinded By The Light' beats Bruce's by a mile, but I've never been a Springsteen fan.

Damn, I can't believe I'm the first poster to mention this one!

Trent Reznor says he will never perform this song again simply because old Johnny did such a good job.

I'll also +1 k.d. lang's version of 'Hallelujah'. I was sick and tired of Jeff Buckley-wannabes singing that song before she performed it at the Olympic opening ceremonies. That pretty much says it all.

Good call on "Hurt"! That video is just so powerful, especially since it was done during the end of Cash's life. American Idol ruined "Hallelujah" for me. It was just done (poorly) to death. But for those who haven't heard the K.D. Lang version, it's incredible!

Linda Ronstadt covering damn near anything, but the song that first popped into my head was "The Things We Do For Love", which I think is a 10cc song, covered by Clive Greggson and Christine Collister.

So many of Johnny Cash's covers are simply the best version of the song. I liked U2's version of "One," but after hearing Cash sing it, it's just not believable.

Nirvana's performance of The Meat Puppets songs "Plateau" and "Lake of Fire" took some dirty ore and smelted it into shiny metal.

The MP version of "Lake" is WAY too fast, and the song is overwhelmed by the noodling guitar solo.

Nirvana's puts the vocals first, and makes it a beautiful song.

"Plateau" is closer to the original, but I still think Kurt's vocals are much more evocative. He also subtly improves the melody.

Excellent artist, not nearly enough attention (is this the first reference to him on TDPRI ever?

Ironically, this cover IMO is not one of the best tracks on the album, just mid pack.
