Manassas

I'm pretty sure the first Manassas album is just about the best record ever made.

We had some folks over for a record party...I was looking for a particular album, (we have about 300), and came across Manassas. It's been on the turntable for three days now.

We're probably going to cover The Task or Bound to Loose.

I will echo what all others have stated.

We used to do Jet Set into Anyway in the band I was in during 1976 and I still have the album songbook.

Carry on....

No argument from me.
Certainly SS's best, most consistent solo album.
I should qualify "solo", because of Hillman's strong
contributions and the brilliant playing of Al Perkins, Joe Lala, and
the rest of the band.
Love the YouTube videos, there is more at Wolfgang's Vault.

+1 Manassas .....one of the top 5 albums of all time for me. So Begins The Task ....favorite Stills song. Al Perkins slide guitar is killer on this album. The versatility is amazing!

"Both of Us (Bound to Lose)". I mostly write for a living and know better.

Thanks for the videos, so young.

(And to make even better, Wikipedia says its Jerry Garcia playing pedal steel on "Jesus Gave Love Away for Free".

I was just playing along with "Anyway" earlier today. It's a great album, and probably my second favorite after Exile on Main Street.

I know that Jerry played on Change Partners, but I'm not sure about him playing on the Manasses album with Al Perkins on board. I'll give it a listen. I can usually spot Jerry's PSG playing in three notes.

Top 5.

1st LP is one of those "one long song" albums for me. Really don't know all the titles (probably do, if I think of it) but every track is golden.

For those that don't already have it, Pieces is pretty decent stuff as well. Couple of great tracks mixed in... nice time piece for the band.

Great record. It's one of those double albums that you can live in for a while. I especially like 'The Treasure':
