Favorite never-discussed guitarist?
Who is your favorite guitarist that you never hear about? I just love Dave Gregory with XTC. That boy came up with some tasty, tasty guitar parts.
Who is yours? |

big john taylor... he played on a handful of stupendous sides for rockabilly singer benny joy in the 50s and both should have been household names... big john taylor had his own thing going and really didn't sound like anybody... luckily there's been a wealth of previously unissued material that has been released since... tj

Eddy Shaver. Not unknown, but he doesn't get talked about near enough.
I like guys who play Teles, but I could listen to him play his Strat all day. Too bad he died too soon. |

Keith Wyatt of the Blasters is a great guitarist and a great guy. He and I used to hang out together when I lived in LA 1977-87. He was also head of the guitar program at Musician's Institute in LA for many years.

Hollywood Fats was a true master of Blues guitar. He only left one studio album, but it shows his total command of the different post-war blues styles. There are several unofficial live albums that showed how he tore it up in front of an audience.

There's a few that come to mind, including some local unknowns, but I'm gonna go with Rick Richards on this one. Useta play with the GA Sattelllites, now with Izzy Stradlin, I think, just a great guitarist that you'll never or rarley hear people talk about.

John Mooney
There is very little to compare to seeing this guy live. This clip doesn't do him justice.

Jonny Greenwood.
One of the most consistently great players of the last 20 years IMO. His playing gets very little attention because he has always done his best to avoid being viewed as a virtuoso and has probably never played a minor pentatonic solo in his life. I really like the anti-solo on this song:
