Does anyone like guitar driven funk like the meters over heavy synth or horn driven funk like sly stone, James brown or any George Clinton project?

During the Nobel Peace Prize Concert in Oslo 2007, the damndest thing happened that I never thought I'd see: Royalty and Heads of State started shaking their heads and swaying their bodies and some even got on their feet starting to dance real spontanously during Earth, Wind & Fire's performance. Actually I guess it was impossible not to ...

Founder/bassist Verdin White (man, does he love to perform!) and the drummer/percussionists have to be the funkiest rhythm section this side of eternity! And singer Philip Bailey covers a wider tonal range than probably any other male singer: from baryton to soprano!

Turn it up and try and sit still! Impossible? Thought so ...

Am I the only one who saw the Bootsy Collins ad for Old Navy Boots? Just brilliant but I have to wonder how many kids in Old Navy's demographic even know who he is.

Can't have a thread without Tom Browne.

FUNK YEAH!

Funk Royalty.

Let's not overlook Janet Jackson.

Ben Harper.

Macy Gray covering Janet Jackson and funking it up.

Flashlight. 'Nuff said.

Asking who is funkier: James Brown, P-Funk or The Meters is like asking who's stronger: God, Allah or Superman!

We all know Superman is the strongest, so I guess that means P-funk and the Meters tie.

Asking who is funkier: James Brown, P-Funk or The Meters is like asking who's stronger: God, Allah or Superman! ... If that was in reference to my post then you misunderstood the question. I got what you mean though... Funk is funk and those 3 are def the funkiest of the funkiest! But... My question was does anyone prefer the SIMPLE guitar and key based riffs of the meters over the bigger bands more COMPLEX arranged music. Not meaning to compare bands but more to compare the styles. It's awesome to see all the love for funk... I can't stop checking this thread!!! Hahaha

i dig the early raw stuff - it's got to be low down... for me funk walks a thin line - it can get into pleated pants yak territory real fast... YMMV but unless you're larry graham or bootsy collins - with some room for exceptions - please don't slap/pop your bass... tj
