Got a favourite Irish song?
Thought it would be fun to see how many fans of the green we have out there.
This is one of my favourites. Like every good Irish song it has a number of different versions with changes in both the melody and lyrics. Happy St. Patrick's Day to all or as my good buddy David Jackson would say: "Who's your Paddy?" |

Jonsongz when I saw the title of this thread I clicked on it specifically to share Arthur McBride! It truly is a brilliant tune and I'm glad to see it getting some recognition. The planxty version with Andy Irvine is definitely my favorite.

A great song indeed Tiarnan. I understand it was first included in a collection of Irish folk songs in 1840. Other versions have been found in Scotland and in Devon, England apparently. I remember it being performed by local groups like Figgy Duffy in St. John's, Newfoundland in the mid-70's. I've loved it ever since. May try to learn Paul Brady's open tuning version now that it's in my head again.

Probably the only yellow guy in my country who has never lived in Ireland to be able to get up at any Irish pub in the world and get everyone up to these two songs.
Helps also when you self appoint yourself as cheerleader at a rugby tournament after Guinness and bales of Heineken
