Wilco

With an album forthcoming this year, I'd thought I'd start a thread about my all time favorite band.

One of my favorite bands ever, and I've seen them live several times since Summerteeth. I wasn't a huge fan of Wilco The Album so I'm hoping for something great out of their next one.

Agreed on Wilco the Album, I didn't love Sky Blue Sky.

Another huge Wilco fan here also, Wilco the Album was 'ok' Summerteeth, Yankee Hotel Foxtrot and A Ghost is Born are some of my all time faves! Jeff Tweedy is a lyrical genius IMHO.

Another huge fan here. They are the most amazing live show - the only band where I actually prefer the live album to studio. They actually keep working at evolving their older material.

I know there were a lot of tension issues with the lineup, but I haven't enjoyed the post-Yankee Hotel Foxtrot era as much, either.

Anyone into Wilco's "other half", Son Volt?

Yeah, Jeff's way too happy these days. I wish Jay Bennett was still around (RIP).

Yes i have seen Son Volt 2 times live.Trace is a great album. But the problem with Jay Farrarr is he does not expand on his roots. He did a little lately but he does not go where Wilco does and try to deconstruct and then make a great album.

Thanks for posting the old "Box Full of Letters" clip. Tweedy looks so young therep, and it's great to see Jay Bennett play it. Huge Farrar fan here, too.

Used to be my favorite band. Loved AM, Being There and Mermaid Ave. Also Golden Smog had some awesome Tweedy stuff in it. The later, more prog stuff does not appeal to me as much. Thanks for that clip of "Box Full Of Letters". Sooo 90s. Makes me a little nostalgic.

I think Wilco the album and Sky Blue Sky were kind of clunkers compared to their previous albums. They are about due for a good one. Come to think of it they haven't had a stellar album (IMHO) since Jay left. Coincidence?

The last time I saw Wilco live I was accused of being an old man for implying that. Ghost and Sky were good, but not up to par with the Jay Bennett years. I liked half of Wilco The Album, the other half not so much.

Wilco is fine, but Son Volt rocks them off the stage!

Seen both more than a few times over the years, even saw the "reunion" of Uncle Tupelo back in '96 (I think I remember?) at WaveFest in Charleston, SC where they were both on the stage together.

FWIW, my favorite Wilco by far is A.M. With Mr. Henneman on lead, those licks were so catchy & tight. Writing was tops, too. Liked Impossible Germany but not too much else recently...?

Eh, YHF is their best and he left while it was being recorded. A Ghost is Born is fantastic and he wasn't on that one. Jay's presence is missed, I just feel like he was removed from band before they went into this little slump they're.

It's actually kind of funny, the current lineup is probably the best lineup live, they just have yet to put out a really good album with it.

I feel like most people who prefer Son Volt to Wilco think AM is the best Wilco album.

Wilco is by far my favorite band ever. I was so bummed when Uncle Tupelo broke up but it actually worked out pretty well for everyone in the end.
