New voices in blues....

Just having my lunchbreak at work, pontificating on the decline and fall of good blues and soul music.

William Elliot Whitmore is a bit of a personal favourite of mine in terms of a powerful voice in modern blues.

You fine folk have any recommendations on modern or up and coming bluesy/folky artists worth checking out?

You might check out Joanne Shaw Taylor's White Sugar. I like it!

She's got a more recent album called Diamonds in the Dirt, but I haven't heard it yet.

She seems to be the real deal, and she plays a Tele.

I'm actually pleasantly surprised at the depth of new blues and blues-based talent coming along. I think we're starting to see a resurgence, and that makes me really happy.

Richard Johnston: awesome one man band

Janiva Magness:

Grace Potter (especially before she hit it big)

Black Joe Lewis (more of a hardcore funk-based soul, think early/mid 70s instead of late 60s)

Ray LaMontagne has his soul moments:

Ben Harper's Relentless 7 project is the 2010 version of the rock/blues movement of the late 60s:

Any fans of John Nemeth?

IBC just had their yearly contest. Anybody know any of the participating bands?

Got to open up a show for her (well, I'm the lead guitar player, not the singer of this particular group) a month or so ago. She's touring with "Girls with Guitars" in Germany right now.

Scott McKeon

Harper (which I couldn't find vids of because you type Harper into YouTube and get a million Ben Harper Songs)

Anthony Gomez

Plenty More!

Me?

LMAO

There definitely seems to be a bit of a resurgence of interest in the blues - and a surprising number of sassy ladies doing it on teles!! (Susan Tedeschi influences maybe??)

There's a bit more interest in blues bands happening here as well. It's a major plus for an ageing bluesman like myself!!!
