Just got home from seeing Brad Paisley
What a show! The sound was really mixed perfectly. His guitar tone is amazing and the playing ain't half bad either. :-)
He played a strat for one song which was surprising. I've only seem him with Teles.

Awesome - looks like you were right up close.
Could you tell us about the teevee taping things. Did they do a couple takes or was it as if it was live? Wish I coulda been there! Cheers, Geoff

No extra takes
This was broadcast live so no extra takes. It's not like they make any mistakes though, the band is pretty tight. It's cool to see how they do it though. There are cameras all over the place. They've got one little camera on a long boom buzzing all over, there's a guy with this big anti-shake camera contraption strapped to him running around the stage, there's a giant camera on a boom in the back of the audience, etc etc. I was just really amazed at how good the sound was. I guess from doing the Letterman show for so long they just really have it dialed in. One thing I found interesting is that Paisley has no pedals on the floor. I guess his tech must be making the changes from backstage. Must be nice huh?

No
I really thought I'd get a bunch of responses considering the price of $0. :-)

It
was only supposed to run 45 minutes. It was a pleasant surprise when he kept playing.

Yes
Letterman taped first. The only one from the Letterman show I saw was Paul Schaffer who sat in with the band for one song.

That was really nice of you to offer the ticket ... I’m really stunned no one jumped on it …. I thought about taking NJ Transit (a quick cheap trip to NY) |

I can't wait to get home and watch this. I saw myself on the monitor at least once so I'm in this somewhere.

I've played a 'banjo-tele' before but I've never seen a bass like that. That was a very cool looking bass.

As much as I'm a huge fan of Brad's playing I think he should give a little more solo time to each player. They're all great musicians in their own right and I would have loved to have heard each one of them improvise a little more. There was one song were they each got a little break but that's about it. I suppose in a regular full-length concert they may get more opportunities.

Gotta say that Letterman concert was really fun, makes me remember what I truly love about Brad's playing, personality and songs. Hearing "Mud on the Tires" was great, my favorite BP album and the splash-caster sounded great - loved the clarity. Looks like a nice silver sparkle Fender he used on "Then" and "Ticks". "Time Warp" ?...geesh, you won't find many bands to pull something like that off live.

I noticed when he was playing the strat he had it set on the center pickup. I have a strat and and never used that pickup by itself and didn't think anyone else did much either. But he could always have the the switch wired differently, I guess.
