Cowboy Dreams -- Paddy McAloon
Man, this guy is one fantastic writer. Here he is amongst us and we pretend he's not there.
If History ever were true unto itself, some day the rest of us will mostly be forgotten, and this fellow is the one the newer generations will fawn over. From 2001: "Prefab Sprout" is the name of the band. Last edited by boris bubbanov; August 7th, 2010 at 08:58 PM. |

Now, you're seeing images of Neil Conti and Wendy Smith - but they did not participate on this album notwithstanding the old images used by the guys that posted these Youtubes. The one you really wanna hear is "Streets of Laredo" on some title to that effect. Really moving. Last edited by boris bubbanov; August 7th, 2010 at 11:40 PM. |

Cowboy Dreams I believe was written for the TV programme Crocodille Shoes starring Jimmy Nail (anyone remember that?). Also it appears on the album of the same name and I've got to confess that I prefer the Jimmy Nail version.
Here in the UK Paddy McAloon is highly regarded as a songwriter, but we don't see/hear too much of him these days. |

Prefab Sprout's Two Wheels Good (aka Steve McQueen) is one of my all-time favorite albums.
love the line from "Appetite" - 'wishes she could call him heartache, but its not a boy's name' 'when love breaks down':

When I first heard the band I didn't know what to think. My friends were very disappointed and proposed to dislike it and forget it but then my brother really fell for the music. Yeah, he's definitely a serious romantic while I'm the cynical one.
"Appetite" and "Life of Surprises" were my original exposures and I really got heavily hooked after buying "Jordan - The Comeback". At one time there was an average of one song per album I could not stomach. Now, I'm pretty much liking everything he does although "Barnyard Cat" is a little goofy for me. ^) |
