Cindy Lauper

Is going to be on Howard Stern with Johnny Lang this morning. Should be interesting, they are going go be doing "crossroads ". Supposedly she's a real good blues singed.

she's an incredibly powerful and gifted singer, a fact that is often overlooked due to her being presented as somewhat of an eccentric novelty act during the 80s.

Yeah I saw Cyndi a few years ago during the True Colors tour she started up, she has some seriously awesome pipes. I used to think she was "washed up" after the 80's passed, but as it turns out, she was just like many other talented artists. They continue on the way, just out of the mainstream's eye, making awesome music and putting together live shows. Myspace and FB has been handy in rediscovering and keeping up with them! I no longer use that term anymore, and enjoy digging back to what I used to listen to and see what they've been up to, if anything.

I love Cyndi as much as the next guy but I think she should leave the blues to the professionals.

Just doesn't do it for me.

I like her. Check out this version of Time After Time by Bireli Legrene and Sylvain Luc

Well, I always thought Money Changes Everything was a great song. At least I did way back then, and on further reflection it's still quite good.

Cyndi is an amazing singer, and a great songwriter. I have always been a huge fan, and probably always will be. Don't know about her being a blues singer, but I wouldn't mind hearing her try. I've never heard from anything from her so far that I didn't like.

I'm with you Dan.
Recently she appeared on a season's worth of "The Apprentice". In the final show she did a blues tune. Yikes! My dogs ran and hid in the garage 'til it was over

First I've heard of it but I'm buying that album. Sounds good to me.

i just checked out everything I could find from the new record on you tube.

It's different for sure, but I kind of like it. I'll buy it, just to check it out. If you can seperate the sound, from the idea in your head that it's Cyndi Lauper, it gets infinitely cooler. I don't mean that as a slight to Cyndi at all. I just mean that picturing her in my my head, while hearing that music and that singing style doesn't totally work for me. But hearing with a clear mind, and no mental pic of the singer, works very well. I think it's cool.

Cindi & the Blues

I saw most of her song on the "Apprentice" after hearing that fantastic harp playing and wandered into that room where my wife was watching it.
I thought is was pretty good, she started out a little slow.
Don't know who the harp player was as I didn't see his face but somebody said it was Charlie Musselwhite.
Couldn't beleive she was doing blues.
Got me to wondering so I looked it up the next day, she just released a Blues album "Memphis Blues" and launched a tour on it.
Today is her birthday and the release date. She was on Letterman last night but I didn't see it.
She's gettin up there, she should be able to sing the blues. Maybe better than her other stuff.

Her interpretation of "blues" does nothing for me. In all honesty though, I really know very little about her (due to my age) other than her time on the celebrity apprentice scared me a little.

Me, too. Trivia note: It was written by Tom Gray of The Brains and originally recorded by the band, but I've never heard that version. EDIT: I listened to a snippet on Amazon.com, and I definitely like Cyndi's version better. His vocals are a tad too tuneless for my taste.

Liked her delivery on songs like 'True Colors' and 'Girls just wanna have fun'. Liked the harp playing on this........ but prefer the original

-and my version (been a favorite of mine for years).

I find her pretty much annoying and irritating, but to each his own.

I love some of her old stuff, but this is kind of awful. That "kick" you mention is pretty freakin classic. I had to rewind it three times. lol.
