What is this song I've been playing for 20 yrs...

When I was in college a fella we hung out with played guitar and taught me a song he said was from the 70s. I don't remember him ever telling me who did it originally but that they were a bunch of session musicians in LA that put out an album with this song on it:

Chords for verse:
G F#/G Em C B/C Am D

Chords for chorus:
C G F#/G Em C B/C Am C G

Lyrics that I can remember:
verse:
I want to write you song, forever and ever
One that you can hum along, forever and ever

Chorus:
Like the moon up high, I will never leave from your sky
coz I love you and I want you to believe in this heart of mine.

It's been so long that I can't remember any more of it and wish I'd written it down. It had about 4 verses total and I think it had a second version of chorus, maybe a bridge.

The guy I learned it from passed away a few years ago and I never got the chance to ask him about it..

Anyone recognize it? I'll try to do a recording of what little I know and post it if I can figure out how to do that.

THANKS!

EDIT: I just remember him telling me the band was called "Stuff". Google turns up nothing on them :(

Chords for verse:
G F#/G Em C B/C Am D

Chords for chorus:
C G F#/G Em C B/C Am C G

I am going to think that those chords should be written in this manner...
G, G/F#, Em, C, C/B, Am
C, G, G/F#, Em, C, C/B, Am
The notes under the slashes are bass notes palyed under the chord that lead one to the next chord.

The band Stuff was a NYC group...killer studio musicians...that got together for some years to record their own music. Here is a link to the Wikipedia info. I don't know if you will be able to find the song through this info, but here ya go... Eric Gale is one tremendous guitar player.

Yes, thanks for the correction, I use those chords all the time and read them but don't write them very often and got it backwards.

I saw their listing on WIKI but didn't think that could be who did this song, trying to find any lyrics or samples of the NYC guys.

It's totally possible, considering the condition we were usually all in when we would be jamming in college. usually mucho beer and other stuff involved in the middle of the night at an all night bonfire party. :)

Thanks, I'll keep digging!

Stuff, the band, did some really good pop funk R&B 'stuff'. I had an album at one time...may still have it. I don't recognize that song, but that doesn't mean anything!
Good luck on the search.

I don't know the song either but here's a video of the band with an introduction of the players - some heavy cats!
