Ungrounded pup, whats going on?
When I replaced a volume pot I accidentally forgot to reground the neck pup, this caused it to be veeeery quiet (having the volume all the way up only caused it to whisper out of the amp). After grounding it it worked just fine.
Just curious on whats going on. |

I'm suprised it worked at all.
With only one wire connected you had an incomplete circuit. If this is case where the pup has 3 wires, one wire would be for grounding the shield. Although they are usually connected, maybe this pup is intended for, or has been modified for, use with a 4 way switch so the ground for the pup was separated from the shield ground. In this case if you connected the hot wire and the shield wire but not the pup ground wire, you would have an incomplete circuit. |

I hooked the leads to the jack wrong on one last month and plugged the guitar in and got a radio broadcast. These things happen.
