Are These Pickups Worth The Trouble???

I was digging through one of my old guitar junk/parts boxes today and I came across a container filled with all the hardware from an old guitar (a Teisco maybe?) that I stripped because the guitar was trashed.

I'll point out the obvious straight away and say that I didn't know squat about wiring all those years ago and for some reason (that must have seemed like the right one at the time?) cut the wiring at the pickup end and not the vol/tone pots end of the wire.

My question is: Are these pickups worth the trouble to have them repaired or are they a lost cause? Cutting them a the wrong end was really a stupid thing to do and seem to be much more of a task to wire them up now?

I do remember them being in perfect working condition, even though the guitar was not.
I'm thinking of at least putting the neck pickup into a Tele.

So can anyone help me? How hard is this going to be to fix? Is there any easy/hard way of doing it?
Has anyone had any experience with this sort of thing before?

I would say that if you have a 1/2 inch of wire left you can easily solder on an extension and be good to go.

Cheers

Looks pretty easy to solder new cable on, actually. Just be careful not to bend the solid core wires any more than you need to. A lot of back and forth will fatigue and break them. It would probably take me 15 minutes to do both, but I solder a lot. Under and hour for a beginner or a cheap and easy job for a tech, I'd say.

Thanks guys!

At least I was smart enough to leave plenty of wire to fix them?

I had a feeling they'd be ok, but it's always best to check.

Thanks again!

LOL! You guys!

One thing I remember about them is that they had a great clean tone to them, but not too much bite! A nice sweet sound if I recall?

The neck pickup is going to go into this one!

I think it'll look and hopefully sound really cool!

If those are Rowe/Dearmonds, they are worth quite a bit of trouble.

See below: the guitar on the left is my beloved Gold Tone tele (with the original pickguard -- I have since switched to black). These pickups sound utterly glorious.

I don't know if those pickups are worth it or not, but I must say that those are beautiful photographs.

Thanks clatfeat! They were taken on a yellow postage envelope in natural, shaded light. Here's three more just for you!

God, I LOVE the look of those pickups

I'd like to either buy an old Harmony Stratotone, or build a custom version ... the old ones used a similar looking pickup

the first thing I thought of when I saw the pic was, "Ry Cooder!" ... he has a very similar pickup in the neck of his favorite strat, and AFAIK, it's from a Teisco.

Those are Tiescos. They are similar looking to the DeArmond "gold foils" but it is not the same pickup. The DeArmonds usually meter at 10 to 11K ohms DC resistance and the Tiesco's are about 5K.

spankdplank, thanks for the info on output! I don't have any way of measuring the pickups resistance and I had no idea what these things were rated at?
Thanks again!
