kill switch help from the wiring gurus?

so, I've got a build that basically works out to an Esquire with a humbucker. I have it wired with just a kill switch. no volume, no tone. I'm using a SPST mini-toggle, and when it's off, the guitar buzzes something fierce! what switch do I need? anyone able to make a schematic for me? any help would be appreciated! I can't seem to find a schematic for what I'm doing, even though I've seen instruments come from the factory this way (the Nikki Sixx T-bird bass, for example).

The most effective -- that is, closest to silent -- way to wire an SPST kill switch is across the output jack terminals, making the "kill" position when the switch is closed ("on"). In your guitar's simple circuit, you want to short out the pickup (and thereby the amp's input via the cable) and not run the signal through the switch and make the open ("off") position the "kill" position, which would turn your cable into a hum antenna in "kill" mode.

so, if I'm getting this right, turn the switch around so that "off" is down instead of up, and wire the hot from the pickup to the switch and ground to the jack?
this is how it's set up now, but the switch is the other way.
