phase problem, I think, please help

Hello,

I have a Texas Special in the neck of my tele and I am trying to install a Quarter Pound in the bridge. I have tried connecting the white wire to the selector and the black to the volume pot, then I tried the black wire to the selector and the white to the volume pot. Either way, the neck and bridge positions are fine, but my middle position is very weak - about 5K, even though the Quarter Pound is 15K+ and the Texas Special is 7.5K. Do I need to reverse the wires on the Texas Special as well? Can any one help me??? I already tried posting this on Tele-Tech and only got one reply that does not seem to provide a solution. Thanks.

Whenever I've used Fender and Duncan pups together in the past, (usually Fender OV in neck, with Duncan in bridge, like your setup), I set the Duncan bridge up normally, with white to switch and black to ground. Then I reverse the leads on the neck pup: black to switch and white to ground, this has always worked for me, probably at least 5 different times over the years.

Still does not work...

Thanks for the advice GuitarJonz. I tried what you said, but I still get only 5K on the middle position. I have now tried every combination possible (including both black wires to the selector switch) and still I get a very weak middle position signal. Any other ideas???

Limited help from that multimeter...

Even though this thread seems to have concluded with a satisfactory solution, I would like to remind you all that checking the IMPEDANCE indicates almost nothing for you, tone-wise.

If the pups were wired in phase or out of phase, the impedance reading would be THE SAME. No help there.

When you run pups in parallel, ALWAYS expect combos to have lower readings - basically HALF - of what either of the pups reads solo. A low "combo" reading doesn't mean there's something wrong.

Remember, the BEST tool to troubleshoot MANY problems is your EAR!
