Love mine
Exceeded expectations on all levels.
I'm using a TVTron neck PU in a PRS standard. It's a fairly dark guitar owing to the all mahogany body and 22 fret placement of the neck PU. I expected a low Z PU like a filterton to be articulate (it is) but I was shocked how fat and warm it also sounded. Not harsh at all. Incredibly musical. TV Jones customer service is outstanding. He was relocating his shop and temporarily unable to fill orders. He steered me toward a dealer (12th Fret in Portland, OR). It turns out that the pickup I bought was an older design with very long screws that wouldn't fit in my cavity. I contacted TV about this and he insisted that I send the PU to him immediately. He fixed it quickly and reimbursed me for shipping.

Thanks for input
Your story is like alot of others I've heard. I just got a great deal on an old Gretsch made archtop that has a single PUP. I'm not concerned with altering it, and I'd love to have a second PUP. Pretty sure Im going to go with the TV.
thanks |

TV makes the best Filtertrons currently manufactured, most of us Gretsch nuts have replaced the stock Korean-made ceramic or alnico filtertrons that come in modern Gretsches with his pickups to spectacular levels of tonal improvement. Tom is a great guy, very helpful, and unbelievably knowledgeable. He also makes other types of pickups, all are at the very top level of quality. I've also got a set of his P-90's in my Hamer Special; they're as good as any of the boutique P-90's like Fralins.

I wouldn't use the Q filter
Bob-
The TV Jones PUs are VERY low impedance (around 4K!!). The Q filter is optimized for Bill's PUs (much higher Z). You can go ahead and try it (you won't hurt anything) but it may not work very well. The Q filter did NOT work at all with Bill's low Z humbuckers (450s) and when I called Bill to ask about it, he explained why the Q filter really only works with his single coil "style" pickups. It's all about very specific impedances.

Wow!
MLT, thanks so much! TV's 'spec' page isn't up, and I had no idea they were that low. I wanted to use them so that I don't have to alter my Gretsch too too much; I just assumed they were 'hot'. Good enough, the Q goes on the Tele (which is the app. I bought it for)
Thanks everyone |

Filtertron Impedance
TV's new Powertrons are only like 8.0. Maybe about as hot as a medium hot early PAF. Which really isn't even hot.
Have you thought about dynasonics? I really like the sound of them. I don't know that TV makes single coils but the gretsch ones sound great. |

Astro
The guitar has one Dynasonic now; it's good but not great all by itself. The more I play it the more I miss being bale to switch to another setting. My thought was to add another PUP and TV seems to be the only one making the right size and shape. The guitar is not a collectors piece, and the bracing would allow for another PUP with the same footprint. His HiLo looks what I need.

TV Tron impedance
I don't know much about the actual construction of this pickup and why the impedance is so low. However, I was astonished how fat and warm they sounded. They output didn't seem low at all. I think these pickups are yet another example of impedance does not telling the whole story. Bill Lawrence would be the first to agree with that I'm sure.

TV Jones Jones
The TV Filtertron pickup is really great. He recommended the stock (non overwound) version for use in a Tele of mine and it really complements the stock pickups. I've got a picture of this guitar on the gear page of my website www.ripmasters.com if you want to see it. There is a great warmth and musicality to this set up..it has alot of cool tones. Highly recommended!

TVtrons
I put a set in my Hamer Echotone (ES335 clone). Tom Jones, who was beginning the process of his move to Washington, was readily available, patient, and incredibly helpful.
As for his pickups, they're all that! They stand up to the hype and then some! Completely satisfied. Highly recommended! |
