Y'all said this pup is louder, brighter, and has more clarity than most Tele neck pups.....how would it compare to the Harmonic Design Chromotone? I noticed the Chromotone has a metal plate on the bottom of it like Tele bridge pups and I guess this is what attributes to its brighter tone as well. Does the Adder have one?

3 Wire Adder

I recently got the adder and this is my first time dealing with a 3 wire pickup (usually deal with 4 conductor HB's or 2 wire single coils).

If I wanted to wire it into my tele without messing with phase switching how would I go about doing that? I'm not sure which wire goes where on this one.

I have a green wire, a red wire (twisted together) and a seperate black wire. I usually assume black is ground. Any help is greatly appreciated, this is getting pretty frustrating.

Rich, my take on them is similar. I had a guy over last week that was looking at an amp I had for sale. He had a real nice Crook Paisley Tele with an Adder in the neck and a Blues Special in the bridge (I can't remember what he had in the middle position).

Anyway, it had a lot of output like you say. Sounded like a good pickup but I wasn't so blown away that I wanted to run out and order a set. In fact, I think the Blues Special neck pickup is a far superior pup and probably a better match for the bridge, but that's just me.

Hearing your experience, as a trusted and known builder, makes me a little cautious. But I think I'm past pickup experimentation for awhile anyway. I know what I like and what suits me.

I was sent a Strat. pickup from Lindy Fralin in error, but they quickly sent the correct one and included a tee shirt.
Is Bill doing bodies only again? I checked a while back and he was only doing full guitars.

I got my add rigged up and working now. It sounds pretty darn good. Very punchy without sounding like a blanket thrown on your amp like I experienced with the tex mex neck pickups. It's loud but very clear, Has a hint of twang and a little roll on the tone knob gets you some very jazzy/bluesy sounds.

Blends with the twang of the bridge pickup exellently. I have a Fralin blues special in the bridge and a tex mex in the middle and I find myself playing the Adder by itself more often than not..

I got mine on ebay for $40 by the way so keep an eye out and you can get it for a decent price.

I'm not sure, give Bill a call or send him an email. Good luck.

Hi all,

I worked for Mel for a number of years. We still miss him a great deal. He was a great guy and an engineering genious. The family has been working to get the estate and business legal issues settled since both were connected and Mels wife was part owner. This process is almost complete now. Also the family feels it was Mel's wish that I get to take over the pickup part of the the business (there were many things he had his hands in) and I feel very honored by that. The site has been down and will be until the legal issues are ironed out. But Adder pups will be available in the very near future. Mel's very good friend (another terrific engineer) is now working for me and has taught me how to make the t300 neck pup that Brad Paisley uses. So he and I know how to make them and Mel's legacy will continue. There will be no change in the way they are made or the parts that were used; no short cuts at all. The same goes for the rest of the pickup line up. The new company will be called APC Pickups and will be a subsidiary of a name that has yet to be finalized. The entire new corporation will be owned by Mel's children.

If you have any questions please feel free to email me at apcpickups@comcast.net. I'll be happy to answer any questions I can and help you out anyway I can. If I run into something I can't answer then either you or I can contact Minstrel Music in Niles, Il (just NW of Chicago). They are and official dealer of APC pickups and have a terrific tech team there to help you out. There website is www.musicresource.com. The phone is (847) 965-2550.

Thanks for your interest in Mel's products. He would be very happy to know that.

Thanks,
Les Bruzik

I finally installed my T300 neck pickup and WOW!

I cannot get enough of this pickup. It is punchy and airy at the same time. The low end in particularly is wonderful sounding and never muddy. There is a very natural sound to it, almost woody as if you can hear the wood resonating yet it is not extremely microphonic. Definitely a special pickup.

It is on a J5 tele now. I hope to get some comparison clips between this and a Twisted Tele soon. They both are "tall" pickups so I wonder how they compare.

I have the Paisley combination, Voodoo TE60 in the bridge and Adder in the neck. You will need a fairly hot bridge pickup. I have Fralin Blues Specials in 2 guitars and they are not hot enough to keep pace with the Adder. Go 10 or 15% overwound on the Fralin.

My Voodoo is hotter than a Blues Special, but they vary and Peter Florance will wind to specs by request. There are no hard and fast rules with most custom pickups. If you want something to match perfectly, give Lindy or Peter Florance a call/email. They will hook you up with the right match.

yeah-huh!

I just had an Adder T-300 put in the neck of my Tele last night. It's got a Lindy Fralin Blues Special in the bridge, and I find they get along real good IMO.

Not to say there wouldn't be a better match output-wise, but if you DO already own a Blues Special and pair it with a T-300, you won't be disappointed in how they complement one another. If you're buying from scratch and ordering both pups, definitely take PsychoTele's advice on looking into other windings.

To that... Peter and Lindy are both BEYOND helpful when you call them up on the phone.

Now, if my fingers had as much tone in them as my guitar itself, I'd have half a start!!

just bought a APC Paisley T300N Tele neck pickup off the apc website should arrive this week.

now im chasing a Voodoo TE60 to match it, do i have to get a custom wound one off Peter Florance or will an off the shelf one do ?.

is there any online vendors that i can purchase the voodoo from and send to Australia.

also apc recommends a 500K pot will that be alright with the Voodoo as well ?
who do you guys recommend for pots ?

any other things i should be taking note of ?
all this is going into a Fender Squire Telecaster

How will the APC Paisley T300N pickup mate with a SD Broadcaster in terms of tone and output. I'm trying a Rio Grande Tallboy neck and the SD Broadcaster over powers it in volume and clarity if tone.
