Advice re: neck humbucker to match Duncan Broadcaster bridge
Hey folks,
I know this has been done a million times with a million variations, but could somebody please recommend a good neck humbucker to match the Duncan Broadcaster I have in the bridge of my '83 tele SQ, and please give me some specific advise on how to approach the whole question of pots and caps, etc., for this setup? I've got 250k pups in my guitar right now, love the way they sound with the Broadcaster, found they were WAY too dark for the neck bucker I tried a few months ago. Maybe bump both pots up to 500k and add a resistor or change the value of a cap somewhere, to keep the Broadcaster in the same tonal range as it would have been with the 250k? I think I read something about that around here, but can't find the old thread. I'm no expert, as you can probably tell by the nature of these questions, so really specific advice would be great! Any advice or thoughts on a specific humbucker to match this bridge pickup would be great. Maybe even one of the Fender wide range types? Although I've never seen a real one up yet for sale on eBay, and I hear they want 1 meg pots, which just sound like they'd be icepick city with the Broadcaster. I like a humbucker to be woody and crunchy, as opposed to glossy and smooth. I'll probably use it in the middle position mostly in conjunction with the Broadcaster (wiring advice?), to retain the snappy bass of the tele bridge, but give more drive and thickness to the upper registers. Thanks! |

If it were me I'd go with a Fralin Twangmaster or P-92.
The Harmonic Design Z-90 is a P-90 type humbucker but it would give you crunch and marry well with the Broadcaster. If you wanted to stay with Duncan, I go with a Pearly Gates (unbalanced coils) or, again, a P-90 type bucker like the Phat Cat.
