P-90 Recommendation

I want to build a hollow Tele with Fender buckers but can't find them at a reasonable price.
P90s would be my next choice.
What a ya think?
Anyone built a thinline with either pup in it?

I have a Fralin P90 in the neckposition of my solid Telecaster. My P90 is 10% underwound cause a regular-wound P90 would be too dark. It's n excellent combination with my Suhr bridge pickup; I can go from Country-twang to a round, warm Jazz tone with enough sparkle to cut through the mix.

Fralins

I also recommend the Fralin P90's, but they aren't cheap.

Alternative - try Bill Lawrence 290

Bill's 290 model fits in a standard single coil space but sounds similar to a P90 and also eliminates hum. I've had very good experience dealing with the Lawrences and the prices can't be beat. I currently have a 290 in bridge position on a Strat and am very pleased.

Fralins all the way

I installed a pair in a Grosh Sparkle T, 10% under at the neck and normal at the bridge. The guitar now produces some of the sounds I've been hearing in my head but never had. Amazing. To fit the Grosh pockets, they had to be custom wound, 110 each, not the usual 80.

P-90's

If buckers are too expensive, I don't think your going to find P-90's ( of any quality ) for less $$. That said, Fralins, Jason Lollar's, SK's are all excellent choices. Personally, Jason Lollar would get my business. Some of the best sounding P-90's available. If $$ is an issue, you are probably stuck with Mighty-Mite pickups. They have P-90's pretty cheap.

Kent Armstrong makes a decent 90

Price is under $80; I've heard them in a semi-hollow and full sized archtop (no Tele sorry) and they were what you'd expect from a 90.

Armstrong P-90's

Bob, I forgot all about Kent's P-90's! I have not heard them myself, but I have heard good reports on them. Over on the Weber board right now is a nice discussion on Lollar P-90's.

Armstrong makes solid, working man's pickups, no doubt. Great bang fer buck ratio...

I'm going to call him soon

I'm planning a P90 necked, Bigsby whammo project.
PS
Met Kent twice; heck of a nice guy (do NOT ask about his Dad though!)

I'd had Fralins and Duncan Antiquities.

Right now my Les Paul Special has Duncan Vintage P-90s and I'm happy with them. No complaints.

The advantage that the Fralins might have is that they are rw/rp so they are hum cancelling in the middle switch postition. Neither Duncan set that I've had were. If you're not using 2 of them on your Tele, that wouldn't be an issue.

Lollar P90 neck ...

Armstrong P94's fore and aft ...

Massive Z90's front and back ...

Armstrong P90's all the way ...

Personally, I prefer the HB-sized P94's ... I never liked the P90 mounting system. YMMV.

If I remember correctly it's a Bill Lawrence 280. I'm 99% sure that's what it is...

TV Jones p90s

TV Jones, who mostly makes tron-style humbuckers for Gretschs and other hollowbodies (the Brian Setzer model has these) also makes some really nice p90 pickups.
