Burns Tri-Sonics... please help

I want to try them out on a strat. They look nice, and according to Brian May, (Queen guitarist) they give a fatter sound than regular single-coils. Read "Bri's soapbox" at www.brianmay.com. It's down the page at Sun 02 July 06. I also emailed him about it, and he gave me the following reply:

It may have been done somewhere, but not by me ! What we DID do, in the Guild days, was something very similar .... Dimarzio made up a copy Strat with three Dimarzio 'Special" Brian May signature pickups ... they are cased in black plastic with my signature on the tops ..... and were specially adapted to give a broader field and hence the fatter sound, untypical of single coil pickups. The result was - GOOD ! I still have it as a matter of fact. I guess I don't use it much because it doesn't keep its tuning very well. So I think your idea will work well. You then have to decide how to wire the buggers up, of course - like Strats ...in parallel, or like mine ...in series. The series configuration will give even more 'fatness' in the settings which use more than one pickup.

Cheers !
- Bri

Anybody try this or have any experience with the pickups, especially in wiring series/parallel? The pups are over 80 bucks a pop and I don't want to spend tons of money on things I don't like. Plus, I'm in the US, so I've never seen a burns guitar, or any guitar with burns pups (unless you count Queen concert).

I am also thinking of wiring the pickups with individual switches, and maybe in/out phase ones, like brian may's guitar. Anyone tried this either?

Ask WickedGtr on this one as he owns a Burns Marvin and I believe they come with the TriSonics. It sounds cool to me. If I owned one I could tell you more. Darn!

This is what I'm talking about. I'm not surprised many people have no experience with those; i don't know anyone except the Queen guitarist who uses them (and he put those on his homemade guitar 40 years ago!). Beautiful, but Oh-So-Dreadfully Expensive.
