Anyone ever mess with the windings on a bridge pickup?
I got a bridge pickup that I was thinking about doing some experimenting with the windings but I take a quick glance at it to see where I would start to mess with the windings and figured I should ask a question or two here first.
The pickup I got is would to about 8.0 and I was thinking of taking it down to a bout 7.0 ~7.3.

first you have to realize you could screw it up beyond repair with the exception of having it re-wound, if you are not afraid of that then if its wax potted youll want to heat it up with a heat lamp or hairdryer, if its lacquered you should just put it on ebay.
Once the wax is liquid you can unwind from the outer layer. dont mess with the end coming from the inside of the coil, if you break that off its history. youll have to take off somewhere around 1000 turns, the only way to tell is by trial and error. |
