Bridge to match VV CCrider output

Hi,

I've just received my CCRider pup with its matching Tele pickguard.

The plan is to install it in an Aria FA50 archtop with a Dogear route FIRST and see how it sounds, then to take the router to a spare Tele if I like its character.

That being said the pickup has a ceramic magnet and its output is 7,3k and have been wondering about which bridge pickup I should use to match its output and/or tone.

Right now I have available an SD Broadcaster and a CS texas special but am wondering if a 7,7k Nocaster might not be a better match as I expect the CCrider to be a rather dark souding neck pup.

Thanks

Fabrice

bridge should be in the 7,5k range so which TONE?

Actually ( partially ) answering my own post,

Asked a few questions to Pete Biltoff and he kindly ( and quickly ) advised me that a brdge with an output of approx 7,5k will do the trick.

So now I have a lot of possible bridge pickup choices!

I would very much like to hear from CCRider owners regarding which Tele bridge pickup matches the CCRider tonally ( i.e. similar tone as opposed to a bright cutting bridge against a dark bassy pickup and such traditionnal Tele approaches ).

That should help me decide if I take my router to my number one or go the parts way.

Thanks

Fabrice

My setup

I have a CC rider and a HD V+ bridge pup.
With a 4 way switch, it is a great combo IMHO.

Hi Jim,

I am not familiar with HD products but will have a look.

Thanks for helping!

Are you sure the CC rider is a dark sounding pickup? Why I ask, is that I too have a CC rider waiting to go into a guitar and one of the reasons I purchased it was for it's (assumed) clarity.

Listening to Charlie Christian recordings his sound ISN'T the typical treble roll-off muted sound of other jazz guitarists. Also, the sound clips I've heard of the CC rider reveal a pickup with a lot of clarity and maybe even a touch of bite while having the depth and warmth that a typical single coil would not have...kind of like a P90 with more bass and fullness; certainly a good jazz and rhythm tone but not like a muddy humbucker.

Lastly, is there any reason you would really want to match the pickup characteristics of the bridge pup (other than similar output)? It seems to me a guitar that has two slightly different sounding pickups makes for a more versatile sound. Wouldn't it be nicer to take their head off with a Broadcaster bridge sound then be able to contrast it with a jazzy neck tone as opposed to a dark bridge combined with a dark neck?

Sorry I used the wrong term, what I meant is that I expect it to have rounded/less prominent highs and more lower mids and bass than your typical neck pickup.

Tomorrow night it's going in an Aria FA50E which was routed for a P90. It fits right in the dogear pickup raising plates which I've installed to bring the dogear closer to the strings.

Hopefully by Sunday I'll be able to post something about its actual sound.

That will give me a better idea of what it sounds like and how it reacts.

I totally agree with you which is why I purchased one. I want to approx the Christian/Grimes/early T-Bone tone.

I've played a Broadcaster/SD 59 humbucker for a while and at first it felt like it could cover a lot of ground but for some styles it just doesn't work: the differences bring out the worst in each pickup in my opinion. I also had a P90 Tele for a while and felt the same: P90 was loud and dark and made the bridge sound weak and thin.

I am totally addicted to my SD Broadcaster so if using the CCRider means having to drop my favourite Tele pickup I might as well use a Twang King to get a good match as recommended by fellow tdpri members.

If that was the case the CCrider might end up replacing the Dogear in my Aria archtop permanently!
